The California Air Resources Board (CARB) invites you to participate in a community meeting to discuss ongoing concerns related to landfill odors and air emissions, and discuss potential changes to the California Landfill Methane Regulation. This meeting is an opportunity for community members to share their experiences and provide input on potential updates to landfill methane control measures. CARB welcomes your thoughts, experience, and perspectives.
Attendees will hear from community members who live and work in communities impacted by landfill operations. CARB staff will provide an overview of the current Landfill Methane Regulation, share information about potential updates under consideration, and listen to community feedback to inform future regulatory and program development.
Date: July 18, 2025 Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Location: College of the Canyons Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center – Room 258 26455 Rockwell Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91355 Remote Option: Zoom

Background
California’s Landfill Methane Regulation (LMR) requires owners and operators of municipal solid waste landfills to install and optimally operate gas collection and control systems, monitor and repair emission exceedances and other performance issues, ensure that control devices achieve a minimum 99% methane destruction efficiency, and report compliance information annually to CARB. CARB implements the LMR in partnership with local air districts and in coordination with state and local agencies with regulatory authority over aspects of landfill permitting, operations, and impacts to air and water quality.
CARB staff is currently developing potential updates to the LMR that would improve landfill gas control. More information is available on the LMR Meetings & Workshops webpage.
