Aviation Technology Forum

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) invites you to participate in an Aviation Technology Forum, co-hosted by CARB, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). This forum focuses on reducing criteria air pollutants, such as oxides of nitrogen (NOx), from aviation sector operations. Forum topics will include strategies to transition to lower-emitting aircraft engines, improve on-airport operations, and optimize aircraft routing practices. Attendees will gain actionable insights through expert-led presentations and panels. Registration is open to the public and for free.

Background

Aircraft emissions contribute a significant amount of air pollution, with community, regional, and global impacts. To meet federal ozone standards as outlined in the 2022 Strategy for the State Implementation Plan, CARB committed to go to the Board in 2027 with proposed programs and policies to reduce NOx emissions from airport and aircraft operations to the maximum extent practicable. In July 2024 CARB, SCAQMD, and EPA announced joint intent to act to achieve further criteria pollutant emissions reductions from a variety of sources primarily under federal control, including airports and aircraft. Among other initiatives listed in the Joint Statement on Advancing Emissions Reductions, the three agencies have committed to co-host this aviation technology forum.
