New Cancer Inhalation Unit Risk Factor for Isoprene


The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has released updated health tables for the Hot Spots Analysis and Reporting Program (HARP) Air Dispersion Modeling and Risk Tool (ADMRT), Risk Assessment Standalone Tool (RAST) and Emission Inventory Module (EIM). 

The Isoprene IUR values are as follows

Inhalation Unit Risk Factor (IUR)

  • 5.4 × 10–6 per microgram per cubic meter (µg/m3)–1;
  • 1.5 × 10–5 per part per billion (ppb)–1

Cancer Slope Factor (CSF)

  • 1.9 × 10–2 per milligram per kilogram of body weight per day (mg/kg-d)–1

To get the new health database, select the “Help > Check for Updates” feature in the main menu of each program.  This feature will automatically download and update the health databases.  Once downloaded, restart each program to use the new health databases.
