Update: ZESBI will re-open for an extended application period to give local educational agencies more time to take advantage of funding for zero-emission school buses and infrastructure.

During the extended application period local educational agencies will be able to request to replace more than 50 zero-emission school buses.
Funding is open statewide and will continue to prioritize small or rural school districts, and school districts that serve a high percentage of students who are foster youths, eligible for free or reduced-price meals or are English learners.

Purchaser Cap Removed
To promote large-scale deployments of zero-emission school buses and their complementary infrastructure, the 50 zero-emission school bus purchaser maximum cap has been removed for the extended application period. Applicants who have previously applied for 50 zero-emission school buses may submit a new application for additional funding with no maximum vehicle request cap.
Background
ZESBI provides a total of $500 million in funding, including $375 million for zero-emission school buses through the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and $125 million for charging infrastructure and associated costs through the California Energy Commission (CEC).
