Release of CARB Research Solicitation

Multidisciplinary research teams are encouraged to submit pre-proposals by January 11, 2023

The California Air Resources Board (CARB or Board) has released a research solicitation to update CARB’s 2005 Indoor Air Pollution Report to the California Legislature. To understand the ramifications of indoor air pollution in California and provide scientific evidence for indoor air pollutant control strategies, CARB staff compiled a comprehensive report on indoor air pollution, titled “Report to the California Legislature: Indoor Air Pollution in California”, in 2005. Since then, California had made significant efforts to reduce indoor air pollution. However, there have been new emerging challenges that impact indoor air quality along with new tools for indoor air quality assessment and increased understanding of impacts in vulnerable communities. The objective of this research contract is to provide an update to the 2005 CARB Indoor Air Pollution Report, by conducting a comprehensive literature review, interviewing various stakeholders, synthesizing the progress on research findings, public perspectives, and policy development around indoor air since 2005, updating the prioritization of indoor air pollutants, and providing recommendations on future research, programs, and policy development to improve indoor air quality in California. Public input and input from members of impacted communities on all elements of the report will be invited for this project. Scope of work, scoring criteria and detailed information on the solicitation requirements can be found on the solicitation landing page
