VW Light-Duty Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program Application Deadline Extended Until August 18, 2021


The application deadline for the Light-Duty Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, a statewide program funding electric vehicle infrastructure, has been extendedThe solicitation will now close on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at noon. 

An additional optional workshop for applicants to answer key questions related to the solicitation has been scheduled for Thursday, July 29th.

The program will provide $5 million in Volkswagen (VW) Environmental Mitigation Trust funding for the purchase and installation of new charging stations across the state for battery electric vehicles. 

The objectives of the program are to:

  • direct at least 50% of the funds to disadvantaged or low-income communities;
  • fill areas with a demonstrated need, either locations with geographic gaps or with capacity gaps;
  • maximize the number of charging opportunities at the lowest cost; and
  • have a variety of charger and facility types represented.

Background 

The VW Light-Duty Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program is part of the VW Environmental Mitigation Trust, a nationwide program that provides $423 million for California to fully mitigate the excess nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions caused by VW’s use of illegal emissions testing defeat devices in VW diesel vehicles. California’s funding will support advanced technology vehicle and equipment deployments and accelerate the zero-emission transformation of the heavy-duty fleet. More than 50 percent of the funds from this funding category are expected to benefit disadvantaged or low-income communities.
