Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom proposed a State budget that includes $1 billion in funding for forest management and wildfire preparedness and the Forest Management Task Force released an Action Plan that addresses the forest management and wildfire crisis in California. However, there is far more work to be done.
To design better policies for forest management and wildland fire, the California Air Resources Board and the Department of Conservation are conducting a Local and Regional Forest Management Priorities Survey designed to understand the goals, priorities, and experiences of the local and regional groups implementing projects to improve forest management and wildfire preparedness. This survey is intended for Tribes, fire safe councils, RCDs, collaboratives, local governments, and other groups that conduct activities such as defensible space treatments, cultural and prescribed burns, and reforestation. This information is needed to inform how to better prioritize resources to implement the Action Plan and develop strategy documents like the Natural and Working Lands Climate Smart Strategy and the 2022 Climate Change Scoping Plan.
The survey is 16 questions. For organizations with a good understanding of their current operations, management priorities, and future goals, the survey should take about 30 minutes to complete. Please complete the survey by Friday, March 19, 2021.
