Low Carbon Fuel Standard Guidance Posted

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has posted a revised version of Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) Guidance 19-06: Determining Carbon Intensity of Dairy and Swine Manure Biogas to Electricity Pathways.

Minor technical revisions clarify the example of potential modifications to a Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculator for biomethane to determine carbon intensity of biogas-derived electricity as part of a Tier 2 Low-CI Electricity pathway application. Proposed Tier 2 pathways are posted for public review and comment prior to certification.

Background

The LCFS, a regulation to reduce the carbon intensity of fuels sold in California 20 percent by 2030, is one of the measures adopted by CARB, pursuant to Health and Safety Code Sections 38500-38599 (AB 32) to reduce California’s greenhouse gas emissions. It is designed to help clean the air, protect the environment, and drive the development of clean, low-carbon fuels.
