Public Workshop Meeting to Provide an Update on Light- and Heavy-Duty Fleet Requirements and Public Workgroup to Discuss Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will be hosting two public meetings both relating to zero-emission vehicle requirements for fleets and manufacturers.  The first meeting is a workshop scheduled for one hour and is primarily for fleets.  The workshop will discuss planned and future light- and heavy-duty fleet rules as well as provide information on how to stay informed and participate in upcoming rulemaking efforts.  This meeting will also provide a discussion on potential reporting requirements for car and truck fleets.  This workshop will be available via webcast for those unable to attend in person on the day of the event.

The workshop will be held at the following time and place:

DATE:                    Tuesday, December 4, 2018
TIME:                     10:30 am to 11:30 am (PST)
PLACE:                  Cal/EPA Headquarters Building
                               Coastal Hearing Room
                               1001 I Street, Sacramento, California 95814

Webcast

The following workgroup meeting will be a continuation of the Advanced Clean Truck fleet/manufacturer meetings expanded into a public setting.  This meeting will focus the market potential for zero-emission trucks.  This part of the meeting will not be available via webcast therefore in-person participation is required.

Meeting materials will be posted in advance of the workshop.  Fleets and other stakeholders attending the second workgroup meeting should review the meeting materials and be prepared to provide feedback.  Fleet input is needed to better understand market dynamics in the diverse segments of the medium- and heavy-duty truck market.

The workgroup meeting will be held at the following time and place:

DATE:                    Tuesday, December 4, 2018
TIME:                     12:30 pm to 4:30 pm (PST)
PLACE:                  Cal/EPA Headquarters Building
                               Coastal Hearing Room
                               1001 I Street, Sacramento, California 95814

Staff’s presentation and related materials will be posted in advance of the workgroup on the program webpage.

Background

Achieving California’s long-term air quality, climate, and public health goals will require a transition from the conventional combustion technologies to zero emission technologies everywhere feasible and near-zero emission powered by clean, low-carbon renewable fuels everywhere else.  Promoting the development and use of zero emission cars and trucks will help achieve emission reductions as outlined in the State Implementation Plan, Senate Bill (SB) 350 (de León, Chapter 547, Statutes of 2015), Assembly Bill 32 (Nuñez, Chapter 488, Statutes of 2006), SB 32 (Pavley, Chapter 249, Statutes of 2016), and a Governor Brown directive to CARB to evaluate EV Fleet requirements (issued August 1, 2018).  This effort is part of a broader strategy to increase clean, affordable transportation options such as zero emission technologies, innovative methods to improve goods movement, and efficiency of transportation systems in California.
