EASTERN PLACER BULLETIN | MARCH 27

Board Of Supervisors Meeting In North Lake Tahoe

cindy

Spring is in the air, bringing exciting opportunities for community engagement! On Monday, March 31, the Placer County Board of Supervisors will tour Sierra Community House and participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Brown Bear Studios. Sierra Community House, formed in 2019 through the merger of four nonprofit organizations, serves as North Lake Tahoe and Truckee's primary crisis response and social service provider, offering family strengthening, crisis intervention, hunger relief, and legal services. Brown Bear Studios, a 14-unit permanent supportive housing facility in Kings Beach, was developed from the former 7 Pines Motel and represents a significant step in addressing housing challenges in the region.

The Board will convene for its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 9 a.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. The meeting will focus on key issues impacting Eastern Placer County, including housing initiatives, regional infrastructure planning, and other topics that shape our community. Residents are encouraged to tune in, participate, and stay informed.

The full agenda is now posted, and we welcome public input from the community. Residents can submit their comments online through the Public Comment Submission Form, by emailing the Clerk of the Board at BoardClerk@placer.ca.gov, or by mailing written comments to Clerk of the Board, 175 Fulweiler Avenue, Auburn, CA 95603. As always, the public can watch a live video feed of the meeting from the comfort of their home or workplace at youtube.com/@placercomeetings.

Key Agenda Items for Eastern Placer County Will Include:

Alpine Springs County Water District Fees | Approve the FY 2024-25 expenditure plan and adjust fire mitigation fees by 1.09%.

North Tahoe Fire Protection District Fees | Approve the FY 2024-25 expenditure plan and adjust fire mitigation fees by 1.09%.

RECAP: DISTRICT 5 VIRTUAL HOUSING AMENDMENTS TOWN HALL

Tahoe photo

District 5 Supervisor Cindy Gustafson hosted a virtual town hall meeting March 10 regarding the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s Phase 2 housing amendments for the Tahoe Basin Area Plan in North Lake Tahoe. Last month, the Placer County Board of Supervisors directed county staff to initiate an environmental review process to align the county’s Tahoe Basin Area Plan with the TRPA’s recommended housing amendments. These amendments, which focus on 100% deed-restricted housing projects, are intended to support affordable, moderate-income, and local workforce housing in the region. Yesterday, TRPA’s governing board reviewed the amendments and voted to approve them for inclusion in the Placer County Tahoe Basin Area Plan. The video recording of the March 2025 TRPA Governing Board meeting will be available by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, and can be accessed on the TRPA youtube channel. WATCH TOWN HALL

PLACER EMPHASIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF SUBMITTING GRADING AND DIGGING PERMITS FOR THE LAKE TAHOE BASIN AREA EARLY

Tahoe

Although digging season doesn’t open in North Lake Tahoe until May 1, Placer County staff are already working on applications to ensure crews can get started quickly this summer when the ground is dry. Grading and digging work is confined to drier months—May 1 to Oct. 15—to protect Lake Tahoe’s famed water clarity from sources of erosion and sediment. “It’s important folks remember that Tahoe’s shorter dig season results in increased interest in building permits,” said Community Development Resource Agency Deputy Director Gabe Armstrong. “That’s why it is wise to submit applications early. Those who can submit at the start of the year have a greater chance of starting work May 1 than those submitting closer to the start of the summer.” LEARN MORE

Entering its second year of operations, Placer County’s North Lake Tahoe Parking Management Program took another step forward with the Board of Supervisors' approval of a series of recommendations designed to help local businesses. The board approved an amendment to the county’s parking ordinance to allow for paid parking and residential permit parking zones in Kings Beach, with changes planned to take effect this  summer. The board also approved updates to the parking fine schedule and established a parking fee schedule, both set to take effect April 3. LEARN MORE
