Welcome to the latest edition of our film office newsletter!
Happy holidays from all of us at Placer County! We hope you and yours have a magical holiday season and head into 2025 ready to tackle your big goals.
A quick reminder: You know that Placer is acknowledged for award-winning wineries, hi-tech architecture, estate homes, mid-western looking rural flatlands, ‘small-town America’ cities, classic western towns and breathtaking bridges (including California’s tallest). But don't forget that we provide free film permits for your productions!
Our staff strives to turn around permits in 1-2 business days. Depending on additional needs, such as road closures, traffic control, drone operations or safety concerns, it can take longer, but we work quickly to ensure you get the filming dates necessary to keep your production on track.
We hope this helps you choose Placer in the year ahead.

An award-winning film office
This year, our team earned a handful of prestigious awards for our work. In the fall, we brought home a Public Relations Society of America Influence award -- the highest honor -- for the design and function of our website. Learn more about the PRSA dinner and awards here.
That comes on the heels of our site earning a California Association of Public Information Officials’ EPIC award over the summer.
Our office also nominated a commercial and we attended the California On Location Awards (COLA) this year for the first time in over four years. We nominated a Chevy commercial, which was shot at four locations around Placer County. It was one of the many deserving finalists this year and it was gratifying to be recognized by other California film commissioners. Learn more about the COLA here.
Lastly, our office made international news when we were acknowledged as a finalist for the emerging location award for the second edition of the Global Production Awards. Read more about that here.
As they always say at the Academy Awards, 'It's an honor just to be nominated.'

No matter the season, Placer County is home to beautiful, rugged terrains that attract the eye of commercial location scouts throughout the nation.
In the last 12 months, Toyota, Chevy, RAM and Nikola have all filmed vehicle commercials and used Placer as a backdrop. From the fresh-powdered Tahoe mountains to the iconic Foresthill Bridge, these productions notably featured unique locations only found in Placer County.
This past year, Toyota and Chevy set up shoots within Placer’s iconic mountain ranges to showcase their 2023 truck and SUV releases. Toyota partnered with and filmed at Palisades Tahoe in North Lake Tahoe last winter to announce their official vehicle sponsorship of the ski resort. Olympic skier Jonny Moseley starred in the production as crews followed him on the Palisades Tahoe mountains. VIEW MORE

Flashback: City of Auburn gets the spotlight in 1984 flick
Prior to John Travolta's appearance in downtown Auburn, the city played host to another Hollywood production with the filming of Protocol, starring Goldie Hawn.
In this political comedy, Hawn plays Sunny Davis, a happy-go-lucky cocktail waitress who becomes famous around America after she saves a man from an assassination attempt.
Hawn was front-and-center for Placer County residents to watch as they conducted a presidential parade in downtown Auburn. The California Club, historic courthouse, old Auburn fire station and other downtown storefronts can be seen during the film's parade before (filmmaker-made) rain ruined the parade. Learn more about this film here.
