Recent data provided by ESRI, a world-leading authority in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and geodata, highlights current demographic information as shown above, one of Placer County's many socioeconomic segments, categorizing it as a "Boomburb."
Boomburbs are new growth markets where young professionals have flocked, often drawn by the qualities of spacious living, ample job opportunities, and a vibrant suburban lifestyle. These emerging suburban hubs exhibit distinct socioeconomic traits that set them apart from traditional suburban areas. As described by ESRI, characteristics of boomburbs are:
- Well-educated young professionals, 55% are college graduates (Index 178).
- High labor force participation at 71.3% (Index 114); most households have more than two workers (Index 124).
- Longer commute times from the suburban growth corridors have created more home workers (Index 156).
- Well connected, own the latest devices and understand how to use them efficiently; biggest complaints—too many devices and too many intrusions on personal time.
- Financial planning is well under way for these professionals.

Placer County is among the healthiest counties in California and healthier than many other communities across the United States, according to the 2024 County Health Rankings released by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The 2024 report no longer provides a ranking for each county within a state but does show metrics on how a county’s health outcomes and underlying factors are relative to other counties in their state and with nationwide metrics.
The rankings highlight some of the factors that make Placer a desirable community to live, work and play — from amazing recreational opportunities to strong schools, businesses, public health and healthcare systems, community organizations and more — while also presenting opportunities for improvement.
