The Placer Prescribed Burn Association is hosting a free prescribed burns workshop on March 4, at the Colfax Elementary School from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This workshop will cover topics including permitting, liability, fire effects on native plants, heat management, landowner resources and others. A panel of experienced instructors teaches the course. This is a classroom workshop and no live fire will be used.
Placer Prescribed Burn Association was founded in January 2022. Placer PBA is dedicated to equipping landowners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to implement low-complexity prescribed burns.
This class is part of the Placer PBA Rx Fire 101 workshop series, which are tailored to private landowners hoping to implement prescribed burns on their property.
Topics that are covered in the series include permitting, liability, basics of fire, heat management, cultural burning, and unit prep and mitigation. It is nearly impossible to learn how to implement prescribed burns through the classroom, which is why Placer PBA pairs all of their workshops with demonstration burns to give landowners opportunities for boots-on-the-ground experience. We’ll discuss what the research is telling us about the best practices we can implement in our landscapes to slow the spread of fire while still being able to enjoy a beautiful garden.
With so many Placer County residents living amongst the wild land interface, the time is NOW to make a plan for your house and yard to create a fire-wise landscape.
Our speaker, Kevin Marini, is the director of the Placer and Nevada County Master Gardener Program, which is part of the University of California Cooperative Extension Program.
