The Placer County Sheriff's Office released an important PSA this week regarding hi-low sirens and how they can help keep us safe. The hi-lo siren was installed in patrol units in 2019 to be used during emergency evacuations. The sound is different from the traditional police siren — it will ONLY be used in areas facing danger from a wildfire, chemical spill, flood, etc. Learn more

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month.  Placer PROTECT, with the support of the Placer County District Attorney's Office, is dedicating the month of June to stopping elder abuse through outreach and awareness. Throughout the month, they will be releasing information through videos and social media as well as launching a virtual “convention” June 15. The PROTECT team is dedicated to empowering our community to fight against elder abuse. Watch video

Placer County and other government agencies are working hard to provide additional funding and resources  to increase trash service in the region, but it’s going to take a community-wide effort to help keep Tahoe clean.. This is why we support the North Tahoe Sustainable Travel Pledge, which encourages taking personal responsibility for a cleaner Tahoe. The pledge also sheds light on the concept that if a trash can is full it is your responsibility to pack out your trash. Together we can keep Tahoe clean. Take the pledge!

Calling all motivated teens! We're looking for the next members of the Placer County Youth Commission. PCYC aims to advise decision-makers on youth-related issues and serve as a community forum to discuss youth concerns and ideas, all while raising the profile of Placer County youth. The commission is also dedicated to initiating and maintaining positive change in the community, encouraging youth engagement and preparing youth to be active citizens. Apply now    before the June 9 deadline.

The Placer Resource Conservation District is now offering free technical assistance to any beginning or existing backyard or balcony vegetable gardener, community garden, and urban farm within Placer County (except the Tahoe Basin). This assistance will help you with starting a garden, assist with irrigation, solve pest issues, improve soil health, decrease weed pressure, and more! Learn more
