County update on the COVID-19 pandemic

The county’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic was discussed at length at the recent meeting of the Placer County Board of Supervisors. The health officer provided an update, the CEO shared the state of county operations and the board discussed some of the considerations that factor into state and local conversations about gradually reopening while protecting our community’s health. New ordinance enhances fire protection efforts

A new Hazardous Vegetation Ordinance has been adopted by the Board of Supervisors to enhance defensible space efforts in time for the start of fire season.  The ordinance seeks to enhance defensible space on county unincorporated land by creating consistent guidelines and encouraging compliance through a streamlined appeals process. Historic Placer County Courthouse lights up blue in support of essential workers

The colonnade of Placer County’s historic courthouse in Auburn will beam blue in honor of essential workers and those battling COVID-19. Historical buildings and area landmarks across the nation have been displaying blue lights in solidarity of all essential workers, individuals battling COVID-19 and those that have lost their lives. Nearly two dozen blue lights were installed on the enclosed base of Placer County’s courthouse dome in recognition of our community’s frontline workers who are battling the pandemic. See a video of the courthouse here.


Multi-family residential development slated for North Auburn

Our Planning Commission last week voted to approve the Gateway Commons Subdivision development project in North Auburn, which may include multi-family residential units that could help boost the county’s “attainable housing” supply. Read more


Placer County launches remote video inspection program

Contractors and homeowners can now connect with county building inspectors virtually and receive same-day approval on projects with Placer County Community Development Resource Agency’s new remote video inspection program. Read more


Resurfacing projects for 132 miles of county roads scheduled to start in May

Celebrate Earth Day, everyday

This Wednesday was Earth Day. There were many ways to celebrate while still maintaining physical distancing. Here were some of our recommendations that are good for everyday. You can make a compost pile by using kitchen scraps to add nutrients to your soil. You can visit a local farmers’ market. You can also learn about county recycling efforts, how to reduce your food waste, or gardening tips. Join our county as we celebrate Earth day, everyday.
