Improved fire risk rating for western Placer could mean insurance discounts

A new, improved fire risk rating for Placer County Fire Department could mean insurance premium reductions for many areas in unincorporated western Placer County. In related news, the Placer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a $12.7 million contract with CAL FIRE to provide fire and emergency services for the county’s 2018-19 fiscal year. Learn more


State grants to expand crisis mental health services for youth

New grants will help Placer County expand services for children experiencing a mental health crisis or those at risk of one. These efforts will follow a similar and successful expansion of adult mental health services. Learn more


Upgrades approved for Speedboat Beach

The Placer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved $413,000 in improvements for Speedboat Beach in North Lake Tahoe. Planned upgrades include a new permanent restroom to replace existing portable restrooms, reconstruction of the wooden staircase that provides access to the beach, a new beach overlook, walkway improvements and new signage. Read more


Cooking classes for kids promote nutritious foods

Getting excited about…carrots? Learning to make their own healthy recipes helps kids take ownership of their diet and health. Placer County’s Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Program offers cooking classes to local schools where 50 percent or more of students receive free and reduced price meals. Watch this video to learn more! Call 530-889-7175 for additional details about the classes, or explore resources and recipes for kids at choosemyplate.gov.
