Placer County joined Placer Valley Tourism and many other regional partners May 1 to celebrate the completion of a $10 million renovation of the Placer County Fairgrounds, now known as @the Grounds. The Placer County Sheriff's Office will present its inaugural North Auburn Community 5K Fun Run on May 12. Community members are invited to join in the family-friendly event launched in memory of Deputy Karen Johnson, who died in 2003 when she was struck by a vehicle while running. Funds raised will benefit Northern California Special Olympics athletes. Sign up today
