With the June 5 statewide primary election just over a month away, the Placer County Elections Office is facing a shortage of volunteers to serve in 231 precincts throughout the county. Over 500 paid poll workers are still needed, including 100 bilingual volunteers fluent in Spanish or Korean. Volunteer here

Road resurfacing projects in Granite Bay and North Lake Tahoe are in the works this summer, with more work planned for next year funded by the California’s new gas tax. Read more

During National Small Business Week next week, take advantage of many free events for entrepreneurs looking to launch a startup or established businesses wanting to grow. Check out events at the new Placer Business Resource Center, the Small Business Festival and Roseville 2018 and the free National Small Business Week Virtual Conference hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration. More offerings are available year-round from the foothills to the Sierra through the Placer Business Resource Center and Sierra Business Development Center.

If you have store-bought romaine lettuce at home, including whole heads and hearts of romaine, chopped romaine, and salad mixes with romaine, don’t eat it and throw it away. If you don’t know if the lettuce is romaine, don’t eat it. Please continue to heed this warning about romaine lettuce from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

It’s tick season. Learn about how to reduce your chances of getting a tick-borne disease and if you do get bitten by a tick, please consult your doctor. The Placer County Public Health Lab is no longer available for tick testing, but if you and your doctor choose to test the tick, then additional resources can be found here.

Some big improvements are coming to Tahoe City this summer. Construction for a series of projects, including three new roundabouts and upgrades for the aging Fanny Bridge, will start next week. Learn more about the projects and the construction schedule here.

Two proposed concepts to redevelop the Tahoe City firehouse properties near Commons Beach in Tahoe City were presented to the Placer County Board of Supervisors at their meeting in Kings Beach Tuesday. While a final concept for the space is not yet determined, the county will move forward to further study the financial and development feasibility of the two ideas and return to the board with the findings at a later date. Read more

The Placer County Board of Supervisors recently approved the appointment two new planning commissioners: Anders Hauge, representing District 5, and Nathan Herzog, representing District 2. The Planning Commission is composed of seven members who advise the Placer County Board of Supervisors on land-use planning and related matters. Read more
