Solar customers may be asking you about how Pioneer Community Energy will work with solar. Pioneer not only works well with solar, but it will save solar customers even more on their electric bill.
|
What is Pioneer Community Energy (Pioneer)?
Pioneer is a partnership between Auburn, Colfax, Lincoln, Loomis, Rocklin and Placer County, formed to provide electricity at lower, more stable rates for residents and businesses within those jurisdictions.
Pioneer will purchase the electric generation supply, and the electricity will be delivered over existing PG&E lines and poles, which PG&E will still own, operate, and maintain (including responding to outages and power pole issues).
On Dec. 11, Pioneer approved an electric supply rate package that drops rates by 3% below PG&E for 2018. Residents and businesses (except solar customers) will receive the benefits of Pioneer’s lower, more stable rates, starting with their February 2018 billing cycle, when they are automatically enrolled in Pioneer. Ratepayers can, at any time, choose to return to PG&E
.
How
does this affect solar customers?
Pioneer
Community Energy supports solar!
Net
Energy Metering (NEM) solar customers start receiving the benefits of Pioneer
near the anniversary of their solar generation True-up to ensure no disruption
of their True-up process. Each solar customer will receive two notices prior to
enrollment and two notices after enrollment, just like non-solar customers. In
addition to receiving the lower rates during non-generation hours (i.e. after
sundown), Pioneer offers a Net Surplus Compensation rate of $0.03 per
kilowatt hour, slightly above PG&E’s current rate.
All
of the installation, application for solar sizing, and connection remains with
PG&E.
