Air quality advisory for Sept. 1 - Sept. 4

The Placer County Public Health Officer and Placer County Air Pollution Control Officer are issuing a joint air quality advisory to notify the public of the potential of poor air quality conditions due to multiple fires occurring throughout the state, as well as the continued excessive heat. This advisory will be active from Friday, Sept. 1, through Monday, Sept. 4. Read more


Auburn Library open as cooling center over hot Labor Day weekend

With high temperatures projected throughout the Labor Day weekend, Placer County’s Auburn Library at 350 Nevada St. will operate with extended hours as a cooling center. Click here for more information and heat safety recommendations.


Update on DeWitt campus plan, help for the homeless on the agenda for Sept. 5 supervisors meeting

At their meeting in Auburn Sept. 5, the Placer County Board of Supervisors will hear an update on planning for the future of the Placer County Government Center campus in North Auburn, including a proposal for affordable housing there. They’ll also consider several agreements to provide more help for the homeless, as well as plans for more trails in greater North Lake Tahoe. Can't make it in person? Special-edition Placer County library cards available in September

In celebration of national Library Card Sign-up Month in September, the Placer County Library will issue 1,000 special-edition, black library cards. The cards are for first-time cardholders and will be available while supplies last. Learn more


Hidden Falls Park now accepting parking reservations

Hidden Falls parking lot

Hidden Falls Regional Park’s new parking reservation system is now accepting reservations for Sept. 1 and beyond. While a parking fee is required on peak visitation days (weekends and holidays in good weather), the parking will remain free with no reservation required Mondays through Thursdays with the exception of some holidays. Join us as the summer-long Heritage Trail Museums Tour comes to end this weekend with stops in North Auburn and Foresthill. Get a sneak peek of the new (and air-conditioned) DeWitt Heritage Museum in North Auburn before it's even open this Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (opening for good later this year). And join us at the Forest Hill Divide Museum this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for kids' activities, food booths and the national and state gold panning championships. Read more
