 In response to the damage done by high-intensity “atmospheric river” storms that hit Northern California this month, the Placer County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed a local emergency due to the extensive flooding caused by the storm. Meanwhile, heavy snow loads on propane tanks in the Sierra are a growing concern for emergency officials. Residents are urged to clear them of snow as quickly as possible. Read more

 Gold Country Wildlife Rescue is set to move into the county’s former animal shelter site in Auburn, giving injured and orphaned wildlife more space to thrive. Read more

 Ensuring
that federal and state policy and funding decisions benefit Placer County is an
annual task for the board of supervisors and county staff. To that end, the
board approved an annual legislative
platform that serves as the basis for the county's advocacy efforts with
executive and legislative branches of state and federal government. Among the priorities outlined this
year: water, economic development, pension reform, homelessness and affordable

Government Center master plan, county staff will host a community meeting Jan.
31 in North Auburn to present draft site plan options for the campus. Learn more

 Placer County’s Department of Child Support Services has ranked eighth in the state for their federal fiscal year 2016 performance numbers, their highest ranking yet amid several years of consistent improvements. Read more

 Placer County employees are known for their giving. We donate on the Big Day of Giving. We’re known for donations to charities. We do things like donate our lunch hours volunteering at the animal services center. But Melissa Magee, an administrative technician in the County Executive Office, took her charity to a whole other level. Read more

 The Women’s Transportation Seminar has unanimously voted to award the Placer County Department of Public Works and Facilities the WTS 2016 Employer of the Year Award. The award is designed to recognize businesses and organizations that support the goals and purpose of WTS, an international organization dedicated to building the transportation industry through the advancement of women.  After nearly two years of research and development, Sierra Community College launched a new branding strategy, marking the most significant change in its visual identity in four decades. The new logo honors the Sierra College heritage while pointing to the next phase of its evolution. Learn more

 Are you concerned about possible health or safety issues in your mobilehome park like unsafe sewer, water, electrical or gas conditions? Do you suspect unlawful or unlicensed mobilehome sales practices by dealers or salespersons? Do you need information on the Mobilehome Residency Law and where to obtain assistance for lease or rent disputes with park management? These questions and concerns and much more can be answered through a new California Department of Housing and Community Development program, the Mobilehome Assistance Center.

 The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board unanimously approved Placer County’s Tahoe Basin Area Plan and the Tahoe City Lodge Project. The Tahoe Basin Area Plan includes targeted measures to restore environmentally sensitive areas, reduce stormwater pollution, revitalize the economy and create more walkable and bikeable communities.  The Placer County Youth Commission has worked hard to help reduce underage drinking, helping pass local social host ordinances to fine adults who serve teens alcohol. Watch this PSA from the PCYC on the importance of teaching teens about responsibility with alcohol, then help PCYC continue to improve their community outreach by taking this short survey on the ordinances.
