COMMUNITY BENEFITS
How has San Mateo County benefited from Peninsula Clean Energy?
In 2016, San Mateo County and all 20 of its cities and towns formed Peninsula Clean Energy. As a public agency, we work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by expanding access to sustainable and affordable energy sources and solutions.
Each year, we update how much each community in our service territory saved and how much greenhouse gas emissions were avoided thanks to Peninsula Clean Energy. See how your community benefited here.
In the image above, you can see the results for all of San Mateo County! We look forward to including Los Banos benefits next year.

ENERGY-EFFICIENT HOMES
A healthy climate starts at home
Electric homes are the safe, healthy, and smart alternative to homes powered by methane gas. These homes improve the air quality inside your home and protect your family from gas leaks and the hazards of combustion.
Curious what an all-electric home looks like? Check out the interactive graphic on our website to explore opportunities to choose clean electric appliances instead of gas ones. From there, you can find rebates and incentives to get started.

ENERGY-EFFICIENT BUILDINGS
How can building codes help us achieve our climate goals?
Every few years, cities and counties across California adopt new Building Standards Codes. Cities can also choose to “reach” beyond the state minimum requirements by adopting reach codes for energy use in building design and construction.
Reach codes create opportunities for local governments to lead the way on safer and more comfortable buildings while reducing their carbon footprint.
We support these building codes by providing extensive technical assistance for each municipality and the county. So far, 17 out of 20 of our municipalities and the County of San Mateo have adopted reach codes!
