Announcing our first solar-plus-storage power purchase agreement
We entered a 15-year solar-plus-storage Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Leeward Renewable Energy involving their 102-megawatt Chaparral Solar Facility in Kern County, California.
We will also purchase the energy and capacity from their 52-megawatt battery storage system, which makes it our first utility scale solar-plus-storage project.
This agreement will facilitate the transition to a cleaner and more reliable power grid. It will also help us achieve our goal of delivering 100% renewable energy to our customers.

No-cost upgrades for income-qualifying residents
Our Home Upgrade Program offers income-qualified San Mateo County residents new appliances and other home repairs or upgrades at no-cost to the participant!
The focus of this program will be on energy efficiency and electric appliances. However, we will also fund repairs to improve the health and safety of residents. This includes window and door repair, replacing old carpet with flooring, removing hazards like asbestos, and more.
9th-11th grade students: Take climate action!
San Mateo County 9th through 11th graders can take climate action by participating in the Youth Climate Ambassadors (YCA) program.
The YCA is a year-long, youth leadership program that provides students with the opportunity to dive into social and environmental issues contributing to the global climate crisis.
Through the program, students will build their knowledge of climate change and explore various climate solutions. They will also design and implement an impact project to create positive, environmental change within their school or local community.
Applications for the 2022 YCA program are due by November 28th at midnight. Questions? Please email Kamille Lang at klang1@smcgov.org

Have you looked at your electrical panel and wondered how you can possibly switch from methane gas appliances to electric ones?
Can you add electric vehicle (EV) charging, an electric clothes dryer, heat pump water heater or a heat pump HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system when all the circuit breaker space seems to be used up already?
Learn how to save money while still complying with electrical code. Local experts Josie Gaillard and Tom Kabat will be leading a free webinar on the topic of “Home Electrification Retrofits Without Upsizing the Electrical Panel” on December 1, 2021 from 9 am to noon.
