 Holiday Cooking with Induction Cooktops
Your kitchen: a central gathering place during the holiday season. If you’re cooking with a gas stove, the kitchen becomes a gathering place for indoor pollutants, too. To blend tradition with modernity, induction cooking provides a safer, healthier, and more efficient way to prepare your favorite recipes.
Our Induction Cooking 101 guide covers:
-
How does induction cooking work?
-
What rebates and financial incentives are available for induction cooktops?
-
Are induction cooktops better than traditional gas stoves?
-
What are the next steps you can take to make the switch to induction?

Shift Your Energy Use and Save
If you’re on a time-of-use rate, the price you pay for electricity depends on the time of day you use it. Shifting your energy use out of peak hours (4-9 p.m.) to off-peak hours (when energy is cheaper) will help you save on your bill each month.
You have rate options, too! Rate options exist for specific lifestyles and equipment. Have an Electric vehicle? Join an EV rate. Recently installed a heat pump. Join the electric home rate. A different rate plan may save you more, depending on your energy use patterns and technologies in your home.
Use the new Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) rate comparison tool to explore how you could save with an alternative rate. Choosing the right rate for your needs, lifestyle, and home equipment is an easy way to impact your energy bill.

Reflecting on a Year of Grid Resilience
Grid investments, led by battery storage, continue to strengthen California’s power supply. The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) hasn’t issued a flex alert since 2022. During this time, massive investments have been made in grid-connected batteries that are increasing reliability.
At the local level, in 2025 SVCE awarded $3M in grants to Milpitas, Morgan Hill, Saratoga, and Sunnyvale for capital improvement projects that support local energy resilience, building, and transportation electrification.
