In honor of National Energy Awareness Month, consider upgrading your gas-powered equipment to electric to improve your health, safety and comfort. Receiving clean electricity made from renewable and clean sources, means you can power your appliances and car with confidence. Here are some actions you can take and how you can save with rebates:

In California, most homes rely on gas furnaces and water heaters. If you're looking to replace your old gas furnace and water heater, consider upgrading to heat pump appliances. Heat pumps are a cleaner and safer alternative that's also more efficient. Unlike gas systems, which waste energy through combustion, heat pumps transfer heat efficiently. Additionally, gas systems can pose safety risks from gas leaks and carbon monoxide emissions, while heat pumps, being electric appliances, eliminate these concerns.

Cooking with gas releases harmful indoor pollutants, including carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, and other toxic chemicals, endangering your family’s health. Induction cooktops offer a healthier, safer, and more efficient alternative with precise cooking control, effortless cleaning, and quick boiling. If you’re ready to upgrade to induction cooking, read this article to learn what you should consider.

Your October Energy Bill Will Include a California Climate Credit
The California Climate Credit is a state-wide program that distributes money back to households and small businesses in the months of April and October. This month you will find a $38.39 credit applied to your electricity bill. No need to do anything, all residential households – residential solar included - will automatically receive the credit on your bill as it is not related to your specific energy usage.
This state program requires power plants, natural gas distributors, and other greenhouse gas-emitting industries to purchase carbon pollution permits and part of the collected payments go towards the California Climate Credit.

Be a Heat Pump Water Heater Hero
Celebrate Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH) Day on October 25 by exploring this innovative water-heating equipment. HPWHs function similarly to a refrigerator, but in reverse. In a refrigerator, the absorbed heat is released outside through the coils on the back or bottom of the equipment, keeping the inside cool.
For HPWHs, the equipment captures heat from the surrounding air and the heat is transferred to the water in the tank. As the process continues, the temperature of the water in the tank increases, providing a steady supply of hot water. Given their high energy efficiency, HPWHs reduce electricity consumption and can lower electricity bills when paired with a time-of-use electricity rate. |

Soup season is approaching, and you can enjoy it without indoor air pollution! Swap your gas stove for an induction cooktop this season. Induction cooktops offer a safer alternative, provide a more controlled cooking experience and can boil water in half the time. These are not the old electric stovetops with bright red coils; they are highly responsive, magnetic cooktops with a sleek surface favored by professional chefs. |

|
Carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, benzene and other toxic emissions are released into your home when cooking with gas. A recent Stanford University study of 87 homes in California and Colorado measured benzene emissions from gas stoves and found that having a single gas burner on high or the oven set at 350ºF can raise indoor benzene concentrations above the level of second-hand smoke.
You deserve a better kitchen environment. Right now, you can receive a $50 rebate on an induction cooktop through the Appliances Assistant. Experience the benefits of induction cooking while preparing your holiday meals.

Get Inspired by Your Neighbors
Your neighbors who have transitioned to clean electric living are enjoying increased comfort and reduced exposure to toxic pollutants in their home. William and Lakshmi, one of the Electric Showcase Awards winners from Sunnyvale, upgraded their 1967 home by installing a heat pump water heater, heat pump space heating and cooling, induction cooktop, electric vehicle and rooftop solar.
William and Lakshmi’s advice to their neighbors is simple: “Just do it! It is better for your wallet, your health, and the planet. There are many great rebates and resources available to you that make it much easier and more affordable – you won’t look back!”
