A Flex Alert is a call made by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) - the organization that manages the electric grid, for consumers to voluntarily conserve electricity when there is an anticipated shortage of energy supply, especially during early evening hours on extremely hot days.
Tips to prepare:
✔ Shifting your energy use to the morning and early afternoon hours can help prevent energy shortages. Sign up to receive Flex Alert notifications directly from CAISO to know when and how to conserve energy during these critical times.
✔ Download and use the GridShift: EV Charging App to charge your electric vehicle during off-peak hours when the demand for electricity is low. Get entered to win bill credits for shifting your usage on critical days.
✔ Get $50 off smart thermostats and portable power stations. These appliances can help optimize your energy usage and ensure a backup power supply.
✔ Sign up for the PG&E Power Saver Rewards Program and receive a credit on your bill for reducing energy use from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. when the demand for electricity is high.
✔ If you rely on power for medical devices, check out the resources available through the Silicon Valley Independent Living Center.

If you’re curious about EVs and unsure where to start, the EV Assistant is your knowledgeable companion. The tool can guide you through new and used EV models, compare costs, calculate savings, discover incentives you may be eligible for, locate public charging stations, and shop for home EV chargers.
Plus, customers that own an eligible EV can receive a $250 rebate on an internet connected ChargePoint charger or a Smartenit SmartElek charger, when used with the SVCE Gridshift app. To receive the rebate, visit the EV Charger Rebate webpage to confirm vehicle eligibility and reserve your rebate. After purchasing and installing one of the qualifying EV chargers, complete two smart charges through the GridShift app. The GridShift app will work with the charger to automatically charge your EV when electricity is cheaper and cleaner.

This year, Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) recognized nine local students and distributed a total of $19,000 in scholarship awards in the annual EmPower Silicon Valley Youth Short Film Competition. The competition encouraged middle school and high school students to be creative and explore the benefits of community power and going electric.
The films produced in this competition focused on two main messages, “Go Electric” and “The Power of Community.” Several students explored electrification topics like electric vehicle adoption, home energy efficiency, and heat pump technology. Others highlighted their community’s efforts to adopt clean energy and address climate change. The winning films received recognition for their strong response to competition prompts and creative visual and storytelling techniques.
