California’s New Solar Program Taking Effect in April
The new Net Billing Tariff approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), takes effect on April 15, 2023, and was established to better align costs of excess solar energy with market electricity rates and encourage installations paired with battery storage.
If you are considering solar, we have some basics about the new state solar program, and why solar+battery still makes sense for an all-electric home. Visit our FAQs to learn more.

Explore Pre-Owned Electric Vehicles
Gas vehicles are the largest source of harmful greenhouse gas emissions in Silicon Valley. Upgrading to an electric vehicle (EV) significantly lowers emissions since they do not burn gasoline and Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) customers can charge their car with our clean power mix.
Based on our current data, over 40,000 SVCE customers are already driving electric. The EV Assistant has a new feature where you can discover multiple pre-owned EV models in addition to the existing new EV models. There are various incentives, such as the Used Clean Vehicle Credit and PG&E Pre-Owned Electric Vehicle Rebate Program to help you reduce the cost of buying or leasing a new or pre-owned EV.

Free Technical Assistance for Fleet Electrification Planning
Fleet electrification is a crucial step towards reducing regional transportation emissions. SVCE is offering technical assistance for fleet electrification planning. Switching to an electric fleet can help small and medium-sized businesses reduce fuel and maintenance costs, improve air quality, and achieve sustainability goals.
SVCE will work with small and medium-sized businesses that have a fleet of under 200 vehicles, to develop a customized plan that caters to each fleet’s unique needs and goals. At no cost, SVCE will assist in the selection of appropriate vehicles, infrastructure, and charging solutions to maximize these benefits. This assistance is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a limited number of spots available.
To take advantage of this opportunity, interested businesses are encouraged to contact alhad.dighe@svcleanenergy.org.

Create a Clean Energy-Themed Short Film and Win Up to $3K
SVCE is proud to announce the third annual Empower Silicon Valley Short-Film Competition! Local middle school and high school students can participate in creating their clean energy-themed short films and win up to $3,000. Film submissions will be accepted until May 12, 2023.
This year, our competition has two prompts: “Go Electric” and “The Power of Community.” “Go Electric” is the growing clean energy movement to shift from fossil fuels to electricity and electric technology. Students should consider why it’s important to go electric and different ways to go all-electric at school and home, for transportation, and beyond.
“The Power of Community” prompts students to think about community-level clean energy and climate change solutions. If there are any inspiring local clean energy projects or activities at your school, create a short film about it! Think about how the people in your family, neighborhood, and beyond can work together to create a clean energy future.

California Wind Powers Silicon Valley Clean Energy Communities
In January, SVCE communities began receiving wind generation from the Terra-Gen, LLC Cameron Crest contract. Under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) Terra-Gen provides 77.7 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity generated between three sites in Kern County, CA. Electricity received through this project accounts for nearly 5% of SVCE’s annual retail load, enough to power over 18,000 homes and businesses each year. The clean electricity from this project avoids almost 40,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere annually.
The addition of this expanded long-term wind resource increases the reliability and diversity of the power mix SVCE customers receive and supports continued renewable production for California. To learn more about the project benefits, read the press release.

Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is working on a transportation-specific Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) that seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change. If you are curious about how climate change may impact public transportation or want to know more about the range of electric buses, VTA has assembled a team of subject matter experts to answer your questions. VTA is hosting a virtual webinar focused on climate and sustainability on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 6pm.
