Silicon Valley Clean Energy and Google Announce Comprehensive 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Agreement

Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) and Google have harnessed the value of their shared clean energy goals to create a fundamentally new 24/7 renewable energy service that features hourly renewable energy matching, integrated demand management, and a commitment to ongoing community investments in local building and transportation electrification.

Under the ten-year agreement, SVCE will serve Google’s offices in Mountain View and Sunnyvale, matching carbon-free electricity with Google’s local demand for at least 92% of all hours in the year.

Your Energy Conservation Makes a Difference

Last summer, your energy conservation during critical heat events helped the state avoid blackouts. Extreme heat, drought, and wildfires could strike again this summer, and your energy conservation during these times can help.

A Flex Alert is a call made by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) - the organization that manages the electric grid, for consumers to voluntarily conserve electricity when there is an anticipated shortage of energy supply, especially during early evening hours on hot days.

A Climate Future Through the Youth’s Lenses

Congratulations to the winners of the EmPower Silicon Valley Youth Short-Film Competition! High school students showcased a variety of clean energy futures and solutions, creating short films featuring animation, documentaries, and narrative film. Through the competition, SVCE recognized eight high school student teams with $20,000 in scholarship awards. Check out the winning short films at bit.ly/empower.sv.

Supporting an All-Electric Future for Your Community

SVCE’s 13 member communities are currently working with SVCE to develop or extend updates to their respective municipal building codes that expand requirements for all-electric features in new buildings. All-electric construction promotes healthier buildings while reducing both emissions and the cost of construction. We are also collaborating on electric vehicle charging infrastructure requirements at new multifamily and non-residential developments to ensure that the buildings built today can support the electrified transportation network of tomorrow.
