Santa Clara County Passes Reach Codes
New codes support electrification

In 2016, 13 communities in Santa Clara County formed SVCE to provide clean, affordable electricity and support the region as it transitions to a fossil-fuel-free future. Since then, SVCE customers have been reducing local emissions and supporting regional and state-wide clean energy goals.
In 2021, the SVCE region avoided more than 575 million lbs. of CO2, and customers saved $8 million on energy generation costs. By using clean electricity, you are making an impact on the local community and the state –on behalf of its customers, SVCE has committed over $1.6 billion to clean energy projects including wind, solar, solar+storage and geothermal, to support the state as it transitions to a clean, reliable grid.
Thank you for your continued commitment to a healthy, clean future for your community.

The GridShift: EV Charging app syncs your EV charging with your Time-of-Use or EV electricity rate to save you money, and with renewable energy generation on the California electric grid. From December 2021 –May 2022, GridShift users* are able to participate in ‘Low-Carbon Events’ to earn bill credits!
What are Low-Carbon Events? Low-Carbon Events are designed to further shift EV charging toward off-peak daytime hours when renewable energy is abundant on the grid. During these times, users will receive a notification with the charging window and are eligible to plug-in, charge with especially low-carbon energy, and earn a reward point. Each month, users can earn a $5 bill credit by accumulating at least 5 reward points.
Ready to start smart charging? Visit svcleanenergy.org/gridshift-ev/ to download the app and start saving!
*Current eligible makes include Volkswagen (e-golf only), Tesla, Jaguar, Land Rover, ChargePoint chargers (internet-connected models only). Additional integrations are coming soon.

As a proud partner of this campaign, SVCE is thrilled to announce the official statewide launch of the Switch Is On.
The Switch Is On campaign supports Californians throughout the journey of home electrification. Swapping out gas-powered appliances for electric appliances is one of the most effective and important actions you can do for a better energy future.
Visit switchison.org for one-on-one advisors, vetted contractors, shortcuts to incentives, and more electrification resources. If you’ve already gone electric and want to share your experience, join the California Building Decarbonization Coalition’s ambassador movement here!

In early December, Santa Clara County took a big step in climate action by passing reach codes! The County codes will require all-electric heating and appliances, and EV hook-ups in new buildings in unincorporated Santa Clara County. Phasing out natural gas use in homes and buildings is an important move in favor of local decarbonization. The County joins eleven other SVCE communities that have passed reach codes in favor of a clean, all-electric future. Find more information on the new County ordinance here.
