The transition to clean electricity is essential to fighting the climate crisis. Switching to clean sources of electricity has reduced local energy-related emissions by 35% (see the article below). Yet most vehicles and many home appliances continue to be powered by polluting fossil fuels. Switching from gas to electric for these needs will benefit the community by reducing climate-changing emissions, and making the air we breathe cleaner.
Here are some ways you can make a difference:

Historically, homes in California use methane gas-powered water heaters, but now electric heat pump water heaters are a more efficient and safer alternative. SVCE is currently providing rebates to customers replacing a gas or electric resistance water heater with an electric water heater. Learn more at svcleanenergy.org/electric-home/#water-heating. |

Switching from a gas vehicle to an electric vehicle is one of the most impactful actions you can take to reduce emissions in our community. New EV models offer ranges of 200+ miles on a single charge and require less maintenance than gas vehicles. That’s right, no more oil changes or gas! Explore more than 60 models to find what fits you, svcleanenergy.org/drive-electric/#shop-compare. |

When considering your home energy use, the dryer might not be the first appliance that comes to mind. But, the average American family washes approximately 300 loads of laundry every year and the energy use quickly adds up. Electric dryers are safer, cost less to purchase, and are simpler to install than gas dryers. For more info visit eHub at svcleanenergy.org/electric-home/#electric-dryer. |

SVCE customers received their 2020 Power Content Label last month, detailing the sources of their power generation.
Here are the community highlights:

In addition to the direct benefits listed above, SVCE customers have also had an impact beyond our region. By choosing 100% clean electricity, SVCE has been able to commit over $1.6 billion to renewable energy projects, increasing the demand for new clean energy projects in California and bringing new economic benefits and jobs to the state.

New Paid Training Program Launched for Local Contractors
SVCE has partnered with the San Jose – Evergreen Community College District’s Workforce Institute to launch the ‘FutureFit Fundamentals’ contractor training program. The training is designed to serve the growing demand for all-electric technologies as building codes and residents continue to shift towards electrification.
Qualified contractors, apprentices and journeypersons in Santa Clara County can receive a $500 stipend upon completion of the training. The online course provides a robust update on current all-electric building practices and can be completed within 5-7 hours from the comfort of your own home. If you know someone that may be eligible, please share the opportunity with them by forwarding this email!

Interested in charging your EV or installing an electric appliance at home? NeoCharge is offering a pilot through the SVCE Innovation Onramp program to advance home electrification. The NeoCharge Smart Splitter is a low-cost technology helping people access EV charging and add large electric appliances without requiring expensive electrical panel upgrades, a solution that is particularly relevant to renters or owners of older homes.
With the Smart Splitter, users can share a single existing 240V outlet in their home to power two large electric loads, such as EVs, water heaters, and dryers. The Smart Splitter is UL listed and has intelligent sensing that automatically switches between two devices, so customers don’t need to worry about power switching. NeoCharge is seeking SVCE customers to purchase and provide feedback on the Smart Splitter. Eligible participants will receive a $125 discount.
If you are interested in participating in the NeoCharge pilot, please sign up here.
