A Message from SVCE's CEO
If you read about the most recent report from the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), you were likely saddened. While this report warns of the concerning path we are heading down, our customers are in a unique position to make a positive impact. Your choice to use clean electricity every day has contributed to a 24% reduction in overall emissions across SVCE’s member communities since 2015 – and we are capable of more.
Through individual actions, local behavior and policy change, Silicon Valley can continue to reduce regional emissions and accelerate the transition to a clean, carbon-free future for the entire state and beyond.
I invite you to learn more about our regional climate actions and how we can continue to reduce emissions as individuals and a community. Visit the SVCE eHub; and share the information and resources you find helpful with your friends, families and colleagues. If you have questions about the steps SVCE is taking to address these urgent matters, please visit www.svcleanenergy.org/decarbonization/.

We are excited to announce a new EV charging app that is free to Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) customers! GridShift: EV Charging enables EV drivers to optimize vehicle charging for the cheapest and greenest energy available on the grid. Using GridShift is easy. All users have to do is plug in their car, set a ready-by time and the app will ensure the car charges on the cheapest electricity rate, during the time that the grid has the cleanest energy.
How does GridShift improve at-home charging?
- Automatically aligns charging with renewable energy generation and electricity rate.
- Wirelessly connects to eligible vehicles and chargers, no hardware required!
- Track your live energy costs, energy usage and carbon saved with each charge.
- Opportunities to participate in grid events and earn additional rewards and bill credits.
- Free-to-use app for iPhone and Android.
GridShift: EV Charging was first launched as an SVCE Innovation Onramp pilot program. During this pilot period, users saw an average of $100 saved annually on an E-TOU-C rate. Additional savings may be earned on other Time-of-Use or EV rates.
Current eligible makes include Volkswagen, Tesla, Jaguar, Land Rover, and ChargePoint chargers (internet-connected models only). All residential electricity rates are eligible, greater savings may be earned on an EV or Time-of-Use rate.

Recently, SVCE and Central Coast Community Energy signed seven power purchase contracts, on behalf of our customers, totaling 778 MW of renewable energy and 118.75 MW of storage. To support a reliable grid, we chose a combination of sources, solar, solar+storage and wind. The four solar+storage projects are brand new facilities which will help meet California’s recent order to build at least 11.5 GW of new resources by 2026 (CPUC D.21-06-035).
“CCAs are a leading force in California’s efforts to reach a zero-carbon grid. CCCE and SVCE’s joint procurement of 778 MW of clean electricity and 118.75 MW of storage, the majority of which is new capacity, exemplifies the value CCAs are providing as they spur the creation of green jobs and economic growth throughout California,” said Beth Vaughan, executive director of the California Community Choice Association (CalCCA). “Leveraging partnerships will continue to be a crucial piece of the clean energy transition as we look to increase grid resilience and reliability.”
