In June 2021, many PG&E and SVCE customers not currently on a Time-of-Use rate plan will be automatically transitioned to a Time-of-Use rate (peak pricing 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. every day). PG&E has begun mailing out notices to all customers who will be transitioned.
This Time-of-Use rate transition is a California state requirement, to help improve how electricity is used on the grid, and support California’s shift toward clean energy. The new energy rates are set based on when electricity is used. Using major appliances before 4 p.m. or after 9 p.m., when power on the grid is the cleanest and cheapest, can help reduce your energy bill and cut fossil fuel emissions across the state.
Watch the video above to learn about the Time-of-Use electric rate and how you could save money.
You have options. To view your rate options or decline the automatic transition please visit your online PG&E account. More tips for how to save money on the new Time-of-Use rate can be found at svcleanenergy.org/time-of-use.

Be prepared for power outages by installing a solar + home battery backup system, and contribute to a clean, resilient grid.
Once customers install their solar + home battery system with Sunrun, they can enroll in Lights On Silicon Valley to get a $1,250 rebate for agreeing to sell some energy from their battery to the grid during peak times (and only when there isn’t an outage). Customers can get backup power, reduce energy costs, and help the community develop a smarter power grid.

Considering a car purchase often comes with a lot of pressure – this is, after all, a very expensive product that you will be engaging with frequently. You want to get it right. But there are so many questions to consider: New or used? Color? Make and model? What’s in your budget? Which cars look nice? Which ones drive well?
So, it is understandable that many greet an added question to this checklist (gasoline or electric?) with a groan. The good news is that this question has a simple answer: electric vehicles are already the superior choice for many people.
