Working With AQMD to save the County millions

Through our continued collaboration with South Coast AQMD, Orange County has secured important regulatory changes and nine long-awaited permits, saving taxpayers approximately $5 million. These changes will allow OC Waste & Recycling to expand its advanced composting operations, reducing the composting process from six months to just eight weeks while doubling capacity and reducing emissions by 90%.

This progress will help extend the life of our landfills, support renewable energy opportunities and allow the County to continue providing free compost to participating residents. Additionally, Orange County has secured $756,000 in funding for electric vehicle charging stations at our three active landfills. We will continue working with AQMD to modernize our waste infrastructure, protect the environment and save taxpayers money.
