National Night Out across the First District

Summer is almost over, and cities throughout the First District are bringing residents together for National Night Out. This annual event promotes stronger relationships between neighbors and local law enforcement, raises awareness of crime prevention programs, and builds safer, more connected communities.

Cypress hosted its celebration in July, and more First District cities have events coming up. Check out when your city is hosting National Night Out!

Garden Grove National Night Out and Open House

Join the Garden Grove Police Department on Aug. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at 11301 Acacia Parkway for a free community event featuring live public safety demonstrations, giveaways, contests, Neighborhood Watch information, and opportunities to meet local police officers and first responders.

Fountain Valley National Night Out

Celebrate National Night Out in Fountain Valley on Aug. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will feature local businesses, food vendors, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to meet neighbors and local first responders. Afterward, stay for a special Movie in the Park screening of The Bad Guys 2.

Westminster National Night Out featuring Safety Day

Join the Westminster Police Department and the City of Westminster on Aug. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Westminster Civic Center, 8200 Westminster Boulevard. The event will feature safety demonstrations, vehicle displays, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to meet local first responders. Guests can also enjoy a free concert featuring The Brightsiders beginning at 6:30 p.m.

County of Orange receives 11 national achievement awards

The National Association of Counties recognized eight County of Orange departments with 11 Achievement Awards for programs that enhance public services, expand community access, strengthen the County workforce, and improve government operations.

The honored programs include OC Clerk-Recorder’s mobile service initiative, workforce development and infrastructure planning efforts from OC Waste & Recycling, health outreach and hiring programs from the OC Health Care Agency, adult workshops offered by OC Public Libraries, the OC Parks Jr. Ranger Program, and succession planning initiatives from OC Child Support Services.

This national recognition reflects the dedication of County employees to developing innovative, practical, and cost-effective programs that meet the evolving needs of Orange County residents.

Help shape Orange County’s hazard mitigation plan

Orange County and the Orange County Fire Authority are inviting residents to learn about the draft 2026 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and provide feedback before it is finalized. The plan outlines strategies to help prepare for natural hazards such as wildfires, flooding, and earthquakes.

Public information meetings will be held on Aug. 5 at the County Conference Center at 601 N. Ross St. in Santa Ana from 1–2 p.m. and at the Library of the Canyons in Silverado from 6–7 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend, learn more about the draft plan, and share their input.

82nd Seal Beach Lions Club Fish Fry

I had a great time at the 82nd Seal Beach Lions Club Fish Fry! This cherished tradition brings the community together through great food, live music, and service. Thank you to the Lions Club volunteers who make this event possible.

Dedication of the Eric J. Williams Teen Center

I joined the Garden Grove community to celebrate the dedication of the Eric J. Williams Teen Center at Eastgate Park. Eric was a devoted pastor, father, and mentor whose faith and love for our city’s youth touched countless lives.

This center will carry his legacy forward by giving teens a safe place to grow, connect, and thrive for years to come. Thank you to the City of Garden Grove and the Williams family for allowing us to be part of this beautiful tribute.

3rd Annual Children’s Expo

I had so much fun meeting all of you at our 3rd Annual Children’s Expo at Mile Square Park, where we distributed more than 650 backpacks to local children.

Thank you to our many community partners who helped make this event possible. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

OC Vibe tour

I enjoyed touring the construction site of OC Vibe, a new entertainment district next to the Honda Center. This project will create thousands of jobs while attracting businesses, visitors, and private investment to Orange County.

Visiting Bracken’s Kitchen in Garden Grove

Bracken’s Kitchen in Garden Grove provides an average of 7,500 meals each day and is working toward its goal of serving 2.2 million meals this year.

Bill and Molly Bracken are leading the charge in feeding our community, rescuing food before it reaches landfills, and training the next generation of chefs and entrepreneurs.

Celebrating the 4th of July in Huntington Beach

Seeing thousands of residents and visitors celebrate the 4th of July reminds us why America is such a great country. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our nation’s birthday and the spirit of USA 250.

Regional Center of Orange County Resource Fair

We had a great turnout for our joint resource fair with the Regional Center of Orange County. More than 700 people received free services and resources for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Los Alamitos Summer Concert Series

Join family and friends for the final performance of the Los Alamitos Summer Concert Series on Aug. 6, at Little Cottonwood Park. The free outdoor concert will feature live music in a relaxed park setting and an opportunity to enjoy an evening with neighbors.

Old World Bier Fest

Celebrate summer during Old World Bier Fest on Aug. 8–9 and Aug. 15–16 at Old World Village in Huntington Beach. The festival will feature authentic German beer, traditional food, live entertainment, games, and activities throughout both weekends.

75th Annual Huntington Beach Pier Swim

The City of Huntington Beach will host the 75th Annual Pier Swim on Aug. 29. This historic event showcases the iconic Huntington Beach Pier and the community’s connection to the ocean. Awards will be presented to the top finishers in each division. Preregistration is open through Aug. 28, and same-day registration will begin on the beach at 7 a.m.
