Expanding animal care services in Los Alamitos
I was proud to approve a new agreement that will bring OC Animal Care services to the City of Los Alamitos. This partnership will provide First District residents with access to professional animal control, sheltering, and care services while strengthening protections for animals and the community.
With OC Animal Care already serving neighboring Rossmoor, this agreement creates a more coordinated approach to animal services in the region. It will also help share shelter operating costs among participating cities, supporting reliable and sustainable services for residents throughout Orange County.
OC Probation launches WAGS support K9 program
The Orange County Probation Department has launched WAGS, a new Critical Incident and Trauma Response Support K9 Program designed to provide comfort and trauma-informed support to staff, youth, victims, and community members during challenging situations.
The program’s first support K9s, Lizzie, Charlie Brown, and Sunny, are specially trained to recognize signs of stress and provide emotional support during critical incidents, youth engagement activities, court proceedings, staff wellness responses, and approved community events. Two additional K9s, Ripley and Bodie, are also expected to join the program.
Funded through a U.S. Department of Justice Assistance Grant, WAGS reflects OC Probation’s continued commitment to wellness, resilience, victim services, and community engagement.
