Dear neighbor:
With all the celebrations completed, we are ready to get to work for the Fabulous 5th District! I look forward to many collaborations, conversations, and a can-do attitude for solving community concerns. Thanks to everyone who joined us. Let’s go!

I feel humbled and honored by the incredible outpouring of support on Sunday during our community swearing in ceremony. Thank you to Supervisor Janice Hahn, Chair of the Los Angeles County (All Women) Board of Supervisors, for joining us. I look forward to working together on a regional approach to transportation, ending homelessness, protecting our coast, and support for our local economies.
At our community swearing in ceremony, we enjoyed performances from Diana Farrell of Lyric Opera of Orange County, the Corona del Mar High School Drumline, the Pacific Symphony, and MenAlive! We are so fortunate to live in Orange County, a community ripe with musical talent.
On Monday, I attended the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Prayer Breakfast at New Song Church where I opened the event with remarks on our unfortunate increase in hate crimes here in Orange County, but how Dr. King continues to inspire us all to serve.
Then on Tuesday, I swore in the Chair of the Airport Commission Sue Dvorak! I look forward to working together on finding ways we can improve John Wayne Airport for the betterment of our community and quality of life.
I met with Congressman Mike Levin on Wednesday morning in San Juan Capistrano to discuss ways we can work together to bring federal support to Orange County for sand replenishment of our south county coast, railroad realignment, a solution for the spent nuclear fuel at SONGS, and key community infrastructure projects for him to support.
Afterwards, I met with San Clemente Councilmember Mark Enmeier to get to know each other and talk about ways we can partner on solutions to increased homelessness in our region.

On Thursday, I enjoyed celebrating Waymakers on 50 years of continual service to Orange County at their 50th Anniversary Reception. Since its founding in 1972, Waymakers has evolved to guide positive and lasting change for vulnerable children and families by designing programs that shelter children, support crime victims, counsel youth and families, resolve conflicts and educate communities celebrating 50 years of continual service to Orange County.
Over the years, Waymakers has impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals through direct service and outreach – fulfilling its purpose and promise of changing Orange County communities for the better. I value every opportunity to celebrate the organizations that make real change in Orange County, and Waymakers is one of them.
Here I am (L to R) with OC District Attorney Todd Spitzer, Ronetta Johnson Chief Executive Officer for Waymakers, and President of the Waymakers Board of Directors Ann Stawicki
Then I went to the Newport Beach Boat Parade Awards Reception where we recognized the board parade winners.
This morning, I went on ThisDay in Laguna Woods to discuss progress on developing a County Master Plan for Aging, health care, updates on the railroad stabilization in San Clemente, and the latest on our search for Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) options to replace the OC Power Authority. Watch my segment HERE!
Then I attended the celebration ceremony for The Tea House on Los Rios! This year marks 25 years in business, and what an accomplishment. The Tea House provides a welcoming atmosphere where members of the community can build relationships, one teacup at a time. + I love their family’s intergenerational story of creating a beautiful business from the ground up and supporting their staff along the way.
Finally, I'd like to send my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Darnell Calhoun. Please support his family here.
 Signing off for this week!
Be Well,
Katrina Foley Supervisor County of Orange

It’s a new year and we are ready to serve the new District 5! I was inspired by the speeches from Supervisor Katrina Foley’s Community Swearing In ceremony over the weekend. We will keep moving on; listening, progressing, and taking action to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
To build our foundation, we started this week with updating contact information for the various entities we work with. This includes elected officials, schools and school districts, the Legislature, Chamber of Commerce offices, nonprofits, service clubs, veterans' groups, special districts and advisory teams. I created a form for individuals and organizations to add their current contact details. Maintaining this list allows us to keep our stakeholders connected, engaged, and updated on the latest and greatest! Please sign up here.

Hello to our Newsletter readers! This week, I was honored to host a meeting with OneLegacy the Organ Procurement Organization (OPOs) that serves seven Southern California Counties. Organ Procurement Organizations provide a bridge between hospitals, organ donors and organ recipients to promote a successful transplant matching and donation process. I learned so much about the complexity of organ donation. Less than 1% of all U.S. deaths result in a clinically compatible organ donor. In the human body eight organs are transplantable. For a typical donor, three organs are healthy enough to undergo the transplantation procedure. This measure primarily ensures the health and safety of the organ recipient. Last night the Supervisor attended the Life Savers Foundation gala! This organization established with a mission to assist donors with expenses, learn more about them here!

Veterans Policy Advisor
Last Friday night, Bobby McDonald and I took County Veterans Service Officer George Dixon and OC CalVet Coordinator Ben Gales out for Steak Night at our VFW Post 3173 in Anaheim. The three things that impressed me most about George were his deep knowledge of veterans benefits, his straightforward ‘veterans-first’ philosophy and his ideas for reinvigorating our County Veterans Services. He gets that wait times are too long and has plans not only to shorten those wait times but to get his Claims Officers out into the community. I’ll be working with George to set up a VSO visit for the Supervisor soon.

What a week! In preparation for next week’s Board of Supervisors & OCTA Meetings, I prepared the Supervisor on a number of issues coming before both Boards, including those concerning OC Public Works, the Railroad Stabilization Project, & the Project V Ridership Report. I have particular interest in OCTA Agenda Item 10: Project V Ridership Report. Project V, a grant program that each city can apply for, is used to develop alternative transportation systems such as the Laguna Beach Summer Breeze. I have interest in using the lessons learned with Project V to expand alternative transportation options in Orange County, particularly for young people and/or college students who may be the biggest benefactors of these modes of transportation.
