Supervisor’s Message

Dear neighbor:

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! I had a restful holiday week so far with a lot of quality time spent with family and friends.

On New Year's Eve, Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) will offer free bus rides to everyone, so make sure you have responsible plans when celebrating!

As 2022 comes to a close, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as County Supervisor for the Second District – both the constituents who elected me to the Board and the constituents of the caretaker district I was assigned at the beginning of the year.

Together, we took meaningful actions towards addressing housing and homelessness; providing mental health services for residents; protecting our neighborhoods and enhancing public safety; helping small business recovery; encouraging workforce development; helping residents in need experiencing food insecurity and the rising cost of living due to inflation; protecting our coastal communities; advocating for sustainable transportation; promoting transparency and safeguarding taxpayer dollars; and providing support to our veteran populations.

This is just the beginning – although I will be serving the 5^th District in the New Year, I will continue our progress in making Orange County a great place for everyone to live.

Speaking of - I’d like to invite you to my swearing-in ceremonies this January! On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, I will be sworn in at 8:30 AM in the Board of Supervisors Hearing Room with a reception to follow. Hope to see you there!

My community swearing-in ceremony will follow on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 4 PM! We will have performances from the Pacific Symphony, local community groups and marching bands, and more. Stay tuned for details, but make sure you RSVP to Katrina.Foley@ocgov.com!

I look forward to being sworn in and getting to work on new ways to fight for the communities I’ve been elected to serve.

Edison Scholars: The Makers of Tomorrow

Great news: Southern California Edison (SCE) extended their scholarship application deadline to January 9, 2023!

Their program awards $50,000 scholarships to 30 high school seniors who want to make a difference in the world by studying science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) in college. New majors have been added including cybersecurity and data analytics.

Appointments for Veterans Services

OC Waste and Recycling:

Before purchasing a new item or tossing out an old item, consider reducing, reusing and recycling. Check out OCRecycleGuide.com for info on what and where to recycle. Used batteries from toys and holiday décor can be taken to any Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center for free disposal during operating hours. For more information on Collection Centers visit OCLandfills/hazardous-waste.

The holidays often produce increased amounts of food waste. Consider donating edible food to a local food pantry and place unwanted food scraps in the organics cart. For more info: OCLandfills.com/organics.

OC Workforce Solutions

Ready Set OC offers no-cost employment training for Orange County youth ages 14-24, including those with disabilities or IEP plans, former or current foster children, pregnant or parenting, offender/ex-offender, and those experiencing homelessness, including couch-surfing or at risk of homelessness.
