Eek, Thanksgiving is less than a week away and I’m so excited!! I look forward to family gatherings, good eats and catching up on some much-needed decluttering. I’m anxious to see my oldest daughter, who is almost done with her first semester at Berkeley!
We're also prepping for the Supervisor's annual new coat drive for kids which runs November 21 through December 15. The drive also includes a 2-day sock drive at Winterfest located at the Great Park. Check out our flyer for details. We invite you to share the love with our families in need this holiday season! Any questions can be directed to (714) 834- 3220.
Happy Thanksgiving!

On Tuesday this week I attended the Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) Board meeting where two trustees were recognized. Trustee Karen Yelsey, who has served the NMUSD since 2006 will be retiring come December. During the 16 years that Trustee Karen Yelsey has been on the Board she has served as President of the board for three terms, and was recognized for her enthusiasm, passion and commitment to her community with a Golden Oak Award by Corona Del Mar High School’s PTA. Trustee Charlene Metoyer served within the NMUSD for 24 years and has served on the board since 2014 will also be retiring this coming December. Both Trustee Metoyer and Trustee Yelsey have had a tremendous impact on my life, without even knowing it. As a senior at Estanica High School I was a part of the Swim and Waterpolo teams, at the time a new aquatic center was proposed. The new pool was supposed to break ground in June of 2017, that is far from what happened. I took it upon myself to start a petition to refill our existing pool in the meantime, it got more than 500 signatures and I took it to the school board. Trustee Metoyer, who was vice-president of the board at the time, moved my item to be approved. The item did pass with a 4/5 final vote. It was a pool of mistakes but Trustees Metoyer and Yelsey listened and cared about the issue as well as taught me that people will listen when you use your voice.
Perhaps talk about one of the people/organizations who received a cert or one of the events you staffed or prep for the BOS meeting?
