Happy Thanksgiving & An Update On Redistricting
Fresh Beginning Ministries Thanksgiving Food Distribution Drive
Dear Neighbors,
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of year, as it provides the perfect opportunity to consider all for which we are grateful.
As we connect with our family and friends this week, please take a moment to consider those in our neighborhoods that lack a warm bed and permanent housing, or struggle to afford necessities like diapers for their infant or enough food for a celebratory family meal. While our work to end homelessness is ongoing, the kindness our community members extend to others is especially apparent this Thanksgiving.
My office is hosting my 13th Annual Children's Coat Drive. To contribute a new coat for a child or teen, please contact our office at (714) 824-3220 or view our list of drop off locations here.

Share Our Selves (SOS) Holiday Food Distribution in Costa Mesa
This week, in addition to helping to pass out turkey meal boxes with several of the many nonprofit organizations helped by our $1.8 million in meal grants, we held a historic meeting of the Board of Supervisors. At that meeting, we voted for a final Redistricting map. The selection that my colleagues and I found to best fulfill the requirements of the Federal Voting Rights Act, maintain communities of interest, and comply with the California Fair Map Act was map 5A-1. If you're interested in learning more about this map and what it means for your community, please read our "Transparency in Governance" section below.

As if our plate wasn’t full already, we will now be representing new cities, including the County seed in Santa Ana. I’m looking forward to this amazing opportunity and to partner with my friend, Mayor Sarmiento of Santa Ana, for many needed improvements and changes. Stay tuned for our plan to serve even more of Orange County. 🍊
My priority as your Supervisor is to continue to expand the opportunities for small businesses, Veterans, and workers, to improve public services and neighborhoods, build more parks and secure open spaces, and develop a climate action plan for Orange County.
To that end, last Saturday, I received word about an oil sheen detected off the coast of Huntington Beach. Recognizing that fast action was required, we were able to work with Unified Command, the OC Harbor Patrol, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the City of Huntington Beach, including Mayor Kim Carr, to quickly discover the source of the oil sheen and prevent a leak from spreading or impacting our wildlife. There is a more detailed report included below.
The work that we do for District 2 is diverse, important, often overdue, and fulfilling. Check out some of the articles written this week.

Just in time for the holidays, I received my booster shot at our Orange Coast College vaccine clinic and encourage each of you to do the same. Save our flyer of upcoming vaccine clinic dates or access them at any time on our website.
"It’s important to know if the sniffles and a sore throat are COVID-19 related, to prevent the virus from spreading to other family members, especially the elderly or the immunocompromised." - Supervisor Foley |
We want all Orange County families to have access to FREE COVID-19 test kits, as families gather for the holidays.
This week, we passed out free saliva test kits as part of our District 2 health equity initiatives. Whether you're getting your first or second COVID-19 vaccine or a booster shot, stop by one of our vaccine clinics and pick up a test.
For more information or to collect a COVID-19 test kit for personal use or for a nonprofit organization, contact our office at (714) 834-3220
Be sure to check back weekly for current news from OC Health and more!

Last Saturday, I received word from Unified Command about an oil sheen observed off the coast. I immediately connected with Harbor Patrol, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and USCG Southern California, along with the City of Huntington Beach and Honorable Mayor Kim Carr.
While the pipeline has remained shutdown since the initial October 2nd leak, divers conducting a planned assessment on the line discovered small droplets of oil on the syntho-glass wrap and replaced the damaged wrap.
After monitoring the new wrap overnight, it was determined to be successful and the oil leak contained! I am thankful that this event was quickly resolved.

Food Distribution Drives & John Wayne Airport Exhibit
A quick update this week, as we each make time for friends and family over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Saturday, on behalf of the Supervisor, I attended the unveiling of the new John Wayne Airport Orange County: Destination Art and Culture exhibition.
The exhibition, held in partnership with the Mexican Consulate, highlights talented Mexican Artists from Oaxaca and serves as an important way to showcase Mexican culture and contemporary art.
On Monday, I joined the Supervisor at the Fresh Beginning Ministries Thanksgiving Food Distribution Drive. We presented them with a $23,100 Second District Nutrition Grant to cover the estimated number of District 2 residents they serve.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your participation in our many District 2 events this year.

Helping Residents by Giving Back to the Community
Happy Thanksgiving!
I am so grateful for the good deeds and efforts within each of the cities that I visited this week.
One of my weekly highlights was accompanying Supervisor Foley to distribute meals to those in need at Share Our Selves (SOS) in Costa Mesa and helping to pass out grocery gift cards at Orange Coast College. I know there is so much more to accomplish, but it was great to meet everyone and see so many volunteers and grateful recipients.
I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
