Water Supply

drinking water

Ontario Municipal Utilities Company (OMUC) delivers high quality drinking water to over 180,000 people. Our water sources comprise of imported surface water, groundwater, and recycled water.

The City purchases locally treated State Water Project imported water directly from the Water Facilities Authority (WFA). WFA purchases untreated imported water from Metropolitan Water District of Southern California through Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA).  A portion of Ontario's surface water is also supplied by the San Antonio Water Company (SAWCo).

Groundwater is supplied by City-owned groundwater wells and also purchased from the Chino Basin Desalter Authority (CDA). Recycled water is purchased from IEUA for direct use in agricultural and residential/commercial irrigation as well as groundwater recharge. The majority of Ontario's water demands are met by local groundwater and recycled water supplies.

Please email waterwise@ontarioca.gov or call (909) 395-2614 for more information.

Is your tap water cloudy?

White, milky, cloudy, hazy, or foamy tap water is typically caused by air trapped in water. When air is released out of the water, thousands of tiny bubbles are present and gives a cloudy or milky white appearance. This can occur when there are changes in the weather, water has been turned off for repairs, pipes are under pressure, or when water is pumped out of the ground.

If your tap water is cloudy, fill up a glass and let it sit for a few minutes. If the milky white color starts to clear from the bottom of the glass to the top, then it is a sign of air. If the water does not clear up after sitting for several minutes, please call the Ontario Municipal Utilities Company at (909) 395-2605.

AMI Antenna Project Phase 1

AMI Antenna

OMUC completed Phase 1 of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Antenna Project in July 2024. This phase included the installation of two new AMI antennas and the retrofit of an existing antenna.

These enhancements expanded the City’s real-time water meter data collection coverage. OMUC can maintain up-to-date meter readings, identify excessive water consumption, and detect potential leaks or service line breaks at an early stage.
