Drought Update

As many of you may already be aware of, a Statewide drought was declared on October 19, 2021. In response to the Governor's drought declaration, the State has mandated that all water agencies actively promote the voluntary reduction of water use by 15%.

The City of Ontario offers a variety of water conservation and rebate programs to help residents reduce their water use. More information can be found at www.ontariowaterwise.com. Please call (909)395-2614 or email waterwise@ontarioca.gov if you have questions.

Flushable Wipes: Not so Flushable

flushable wipes

Did you know you shouldn’t flush wipes even if they are labeled “flushable?” After years of legislative work, AB 818 has been signed into law by the Governor. In compliance with AB 818, all wet wipes packages are required to include a “Do Not Flush” symbol and warning on each individual package. Flushing wipes causes damage to the infrastructure during the waste water treatment process and must be removed from the water, causing additional expenses.  Look for the updated labels on wipes packaging starting July 2022.

Please contact the Ontario Municipal Utilities Company Water Quality Programs Division at (909) 395-2605 if you have any questions or concerns.

Water Main Improvement Project

water main replacement

The City of Ontario will be replacing approximately 9,670 linear feet of potable water mains which includes 8,250 linear feet of 8-inch pipe and 1,420 linear feet of 12-inch pipe. Construction began in October 2021 and should be completed by May 2022. Please refer to the above map to see where the pipeline will be replaced. These areas were identified in the City's Water Master Plan; the City's Water Master Plan identifies undersized and aging pipelines to maintain the reliability of water service.
