Protecting our communities from the scourge of gun violence is one of my top priorities as California’s chief law enforcement officer. My team is on the ground, across the state, seizing illicit firearms and arresting bad actors who skirt our gun laws and endanger our families.
This week, I announced the arrest of and felony charges filed against a suspect who was selling illicit firearms at the Placerville Gun Show, and running an illegal assault weapon manufacturing and assembly operation out of his garage in Roseville. Upon searching his home, we found and seized eight assault rifles, a silencer, handguns, rifles, large capacity magazines, ammunition, and more.
Across America, far too many families and communities are torn apart by shootings — so many of which are caused by illegal firearms. Even in California, with some of the nation’s strongest gun laws and lowest rates of gun deaths, we are not immune from this problem, because the truth is, even one gun death is one too many. As this week made clear: if you break our laws, threaten the safety of our communities, or peddle in illicit firearms, we will come for you. Nothing is more important that the safety of those we love.
Your Attorney General,
Rob

Keeping You Safe
The regulations and protocols surrounding firearm purchases have been put in place to ensure the safety of Californians. When bad actors try to skirt the rules and bypass these integral processes, it creates situations with deadly consequences. I'd like to thank the Roseville Police Department for their assistance in bringing a gun show trader who was breaking the law and endangering the public to justice. My office will continue to collaborate with our law enforcement partners who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.

Blocking DOGE’s Access to Private Data
On Friday evening, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York issued a preliminary injunction blocking the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing Americans’ personal and private information maintained by the U.S. Treasury Department. I joined a coalition of 19 attorneys general in seeking the preliminary injunction, and we are pleased the court granted our request. Californians can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that CA DOJ is going to the mat for them and standing up against the Trump Administration’s chilling overreach of power.

Filing Additional Price Gouging Charges
CA DOJ remains focused on putting a stop to price gouging. This week, we announced additional price gouging charges against both a real estate agent and a landlord for price gouging in the wake of the Eaton Fire. We will continue relentlessly pursuing those who are trying to capitalize off of the chaos and pain of Southern California’s natural disaster. I urge victims of price gouging – either current or prospective tenants – to share their stories directly with our office by visiting oag.ca.gov/LAfires or calling our hotline at (800) 952-5225. In addition, we have sent more than 700 warning letters – and counting – to hotels and landlords who have been accused of price gouging and have more active criminal investigations into price gouging underway.

Holding Norwalk Accountable Over Unlawful Housing Ban
Norwalk’s ban on new housing for unhoused individuals and lower-income households at risk of homelessness is illegal. This week, the Los Angeles County Superior Court denied the city's attempt to dismiss our lawsuit over the ban. At a time when affordability issues are a top concern for Californians, we should be doing everything in our power to help — not hurt — those who are struggling to keep a roof over their heads or lacking housing altogether. We look forward to holding Norwalk accountable.

Urging FDA to Take Action Against Makers of Counterfeit Weight Loss Drugs
Demand for weight loss drugs such as Mounjaro, Zepbound, Ozempic, and Wegovy has skyrocketed, but supply shortages and high costs have created opportunities for wrongdoers to cash in and endanger consumers. My fellow attorneys general and I are urging the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to protect consumers from the growing threat posed by adulterated or counterfeit versions of these drugs. From inspections to enforcement actions, the FDA has several important tools at its disposal to help put an end to this unlawful and deceptive conduct. A federal response is necessary because many of the counterfeit drugs are shipped from outside of the country.

Making Your Life Affordable
From groceries to gas, costs seem to be rising and rising ... and rising. CA DOJ has your back and is committed to protecting California families grappling with the high cost of living and the struggle to keep costs down. In this segment, find some of the ways CA DOJ is protecting Californians — and their wallets.
Case Study: Putting California Banks on Alert Over Overdraft Fees
What We Did: In 2024, CA DOJ sent letters to small banks and credit unions, following on the CFPB’s guidance to large banks, that overdraft and other fees may violate the law.
What This Means to You: California consumers paid about $200 million in overdraft fees in 2022 — this hits people on low or fixed-incomes particularly hard. At the same time, in 2022 financial institutions nationwide made over $7.7 billion in revenue from these fees. Our letters let financial institutions know they cannot illegally profit off hard-working Californians; CA DOJ is closely watching and ready to go to bat for consumers if a law is broken. Less money paid in bank fees, means more money in your wallet.
