In the United States, no one is above the law—not even the President. In just a few weeks, the Trump Administration has demonstrated that they are willing to throw that basic tenet of our democracy out the window. I refuse to let them.
On Friday, I sued the Trump Administration for illegally providing Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) unauthorized access to the U.S. government’s payment system and Americans’ private and sensitive information. Within hours, a federal district court granted our request, immediately blocking access for the DOGE team while our court case proceeds.
That same day, I asked another federal district court to ensure that the Trump Administration fully complies with an order to reinstate the $3 trillion in federal funds that they attempted to freeze more than a week ago. By refusing to fully comply with the original court order, the administration has jeopardized critical state funding that strengthens domestic energy security and supports critical infrastructure projects. I also asked the court to block the administration from instituting the funding freeze that impacts our state’s ability to provide healthcare services, feed and educate children, and support the elderly.
As Attorney General, it’s my job to hold all people accountable to the law—even the President. You’ve got my word that I always will.
In your service,
Rob

Securing Court Order Blocking DOGE’s Unlawful Access to Americans’ Personal Information
This week, I filed a lawsuit challenging the Trump Administration’s decision to allow people associated with DOGE to access Americans’ personal and private information, including bank account and social security numbers. Our country cannot afford to have people in the driver’s seat who move fast and break things, especially when the things they’re breaking are critical and sensitive systems that millions of Americans rely on. I'm pleased that, jut a few hours after filing our lawsuit, the court swiftly granted our request to block unauthorized personnel, including Elon Musk and other DOGE associates, from accessing millions of Americans’ private and sensitive data.

Fighting Against $3 Trillion Freeze of Vital Federal Assistance Funding
I also led a coalition of 23 attorneys general in filing a motion for preliminary injunction in our ongoing lawsuit to block implementation of the Trump Administration's unlawful attempt to freeze up to $3 trillion in vital federal assistance funding. In just California, more than $100 billion in Medicaid funding, tens of billions in infrastructure and climate funding, and other vital funding are at risk. Additionally, in light of evidence that the Trump Administration is continuing to block certain state funding under the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure, Investment, and Jobs Act, we filed a motion to enforce the existing temporary restraining order to require the Trump Administration to disburse these funds.

Providing Guidance on Immigration Enforcement on School Campuses
In the wake of new concerns of immigration enforcement on school campuses, my office highlighted recent guidance to students, families, educators, and school officials to help ensure a safe and secure school environment for all. This included practical guidance to school officials on how to respond if an immigration officer comes to campus; guidance and model policies for K-12 public schools to assist them in complying with state law; and information for immigrant students and their families on their educational rights and protections under the law. These resources and more can be found in multiple languages at oag.ca.gov/immigrant/resources.

Ensuring California's Schools Remain a Welcoming, Safe, Inclusive Space for All
California will continue to create a welcoming environment for all students, including transgender and gender nonconforming students. The federal government sets a floor, not a ceiling when it comes to civil rights protections — and California law has always provided additional protections beyond those that exist at the federal level. Those protections remain firmly in place. As Attorney General, I am committed to standing up for the rights of all California students, including transgender and gender nonconforming students, and I stand firmly behind California educators who work tirelessly to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all of their students.

Warning Children’s Hospital Los Angeles of Potential Violations of State Anti-Discrimination Laws
California supports the rights of transgender youth to live their lives as their authentic selves. We will not let the President turn back the clock or deter us from upholding our California values. I understand that the President’s executive order on gender affirming care has created some confusion. Let me be clear: California law has not changed, and hospitals and clinics have a legal obligation to provide equal access to healthcare services. This week, I issued a letter putting Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on notice of its obligations under state anti-discrimination law, following reports that the hospital is pausing the initiation of hormonal therapies for all gender affirming care patients under the age of 19 and gender-affirming surgeries on minors.
