It’s week two of Trump 2.0 and already we have had to sue the President twice to protect Californians and stop his unconstitutional actions.
This week, we filed a lawsuit to block President Trump’s reckless, illegal directive to freeze up to $3 trillion in federal funding, including for programs that feed our kids, provide medical care to our families, and support disaster recovery—like the wildfire recovery efforts happening in Los Angeles. A federal court temporarily blocked the freeze, and I will continue fighting to ensure that this disastrous funding freeze never sees the light of day.
It is not too much to ask that our President follow our laws, respect our Constitution, and protect the rights of all people. You can be sure that if he doesn’t, I will take action. I already am.
At your service,
Rob

Securing Court Order Temporarily Blocking Disastrous Federal Funding Freeze
Earlier this week, I co-led a coalition of 23 attorneys general in filing a lawsuit to block implementation of a memo by the Office of Management and Budget threatening to freeze up to $3 trillion in federal assistance funding. The Trump Administration is intentionally creating chaos through its public actions and statements, attempting to sow fear and confusion in our communities. But we're not falling for its bait and switch. California has too much at stake. That's why we also sought, and secured, a temporary restraining order to stop the freeze from taking effect, ensuring that our communities are able to continue to access necessary federal funding for disaster recovery, including for California's wildfire recovery efforts, education, public health and safety, and infrastructure projects.

Announcing Regional Human Trafficking Task Force in Sacramento
This week, I joined Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho, Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester, and the Unites States Department of Homeland Security to announce the official launch of the Sacramento Regional Human Trafficking Task Force. This is the third team within the California Department of Justice dedicated to combating human trafficking, the other two of which are situated in the greater San Diego and Fresno areas. Already, these teams have made significant strides across the state, collaborating with law enforcement to disrupt human trafficking operations and protect children from criminal exploitation, resulting in more than 700 arrests and assistance extended to nearly 800 victims.

Charging Second Realtor with Price Gouging Victims of Eaton Fire
In the face of natural disaster, we should be coming together to help our neighbors, not attempting to profit off of their pain. To date, my office has sent 700 warning letters – and counting – to hotels and landlords who have been accused of price gouging, and we continue to actively investigate and hold accountable those who disregard the law. In addition, this week we filed charges against a second real estate agent, alleging that she attempted to price gouge a family that was evacuated due to the Los Angeles Eaton Fire. May this announcement serve as a stern warning to those who would seek to further victimize people who have lost everything in the face of Southern California's wildfires: We won't stop until the price gouging does.

Responding to the President's Misleading Claims on the Purpose of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Together with 12 other attorneys general, I responded this week to President Trump’s recent executive orders purporting to dismantle diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives. President Trump’s attack on these initiatives undermines a simple and unassailable goal: to create fairer workplaces and opportunities for all to succeed. His baseless and offensive claims that these initiatives somehow contributed to the tragic plane crash in Washington D.C. are an insult to those who are grieving and the individuals serving in the military and air traffic control. I strongly oppose the President’s attempts to weaponize decades-old policies, which have been supported by Democratic and Republican administrations alike, to combat historical inequities faced by underrepresented communities and the ongoing, insidious discrimination that still exists in our country.

Reminding Consumers of Their Right to Opt-Out of the Sale of Their Personal Information
Every single one of our online interactions is a robust source of data that broadcasts who we are, what we like, and how we live. Many websites install tracking software that allows third parties to track consumers, use the information they learn to create entire profiles of users, and deploy targeted ads that follow us around while we surf the web. In honor of Data Privacy Day, I reminded Californians of their right to opt-out and take back control of their personal data. Global Privacy Control is the easiest way to limit the number of third parties that have access to our personal information and online behavioral data.
