Election Day is 30 days away, but you don’t have to wait until November 5 to cast your vote. California voters have more days and more ways to vote in this election. You can:
✅ Vote by mail as soon as you receive your ballot and through Election Day
✅ Bring your mail-in ballot to an official drop box or drop off location
✅ Vote early, in person in many counties starting October 26
✅ Vote in person on November 5
Learn more about your voting options on the California Secretary of State’s website and make a plan to vote. Voting is the most fundamental way to participate in our democracy. Your vote is your voice — make sure it is heard this November.
In your service,
Rob

Reminding Californians of Their Voting Rights
In advance of the Tuesday, November 5, 2024 General Election, Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. and I held a press conference on Friday to remind Californians about their voting rights and to advise law enforcement agencies about laws protecting the integrity of the electoral process. California’s election laws provide the backbone for a free and fair election, and voters can be confident that we will do everything in our power to protect them as they cast their ballots.

Protecting Reproductive Healthcare
This week, I also filed a lawsuit against Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka, California, alleging that it violated multiple California laws due to its refusal to provide emergency abortion care to people experiencing obstetric emergencies. One particular patient, Anna Nusslock, had her water break when she was 15 weeks pregnant with twins on February 23, 2024. Despite the immediate threat to her life and health, and despite the fact her pregnancy was no longer viable, Providence refused to treat her. If you were denied an abortion you needed in a medical emergency, or if you were denied any other emergency medical care, you can contact abortion.access@doj.ca.gov.

Addressing the Ghost Gun Crisis
Ghost guns are firearms produced by unlicensed individuals from products sold without background checks, serial numbers, sale records, or other safety protections. This week, I released a groundbreaking report from our Office of Gun Violence Prevention that provides new in-depth data analysis about ghost guns recovered from crimes in California, along with other research, court documents, and narrative sources, to document the impact of the ghost gun crisis and California’s response. I’m committed to continuing to prioritize efforts to protect Californians.

Expanding Healthcare Access to Dreamers
As part of a coalition of 19 attorneys general, I’m defending a Biden Administration rule expanding healthcare access to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients – or Dreamers – by making them eligible for participation in the Affordable Care Act’s insurance marketplace. Dreamers pay billions of dollars in taxes each year to help fund programs like the Affordable Care Act. Yet until now, they’ve been unable to access these programs themselves.

Holding Big Oil Accountable
Market manipulation and price gouging are illegal and unacceptable, particularly during times of crisis when people are most vulnerable. I am proud to deliver money back to Californians who were victims of gas price manipulation. As the People’s Attorney, I am committed to combating corporate greed and ensuring justice for the people of California.

Providence Hospital’s draconian policy risked Anna’s life.
She — and many other women who needed emergency abortion care —deserved better.
My office is taking action against Providence to stop this discrimination.
