Each May, we recognize Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and celebrate the immense contributions and vibrant culture of our diverse AAPI communities. Nowhere is the impact of the AAPI community more apparent than in California, where one in three AAPI residents in the U.S. live and where the AAPI community makes up more than 15% of our state population.
From the workers who built our first railroads to so many of today’s leaders, innovators, and creators, AAPI individuals have shaped our state’s history and continue to pave pathways to a bright tomorrow.
As the first Filipino American and second AAPI Attorney General in California history, I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me. I am proud to celebrate their legacy, carry on their fights for justice, and uplift AAPI Californians today and everyday.
Happy AAPI Heritage Month!

A Win for More Housing
California is facing a housing crisis of epic proportions, and my office will continue to act with great urgency to address it. This week, we secured a victory in court, with the San Diego Superior Court finding that Huntington Beach violated California’s housing laws and ordering the city to come into compliance within 120 days. We will continue working with cities and counties that genuinely want to be part of the solution to this housing crisis, and holding accountable those that do not.

Safeguarding Communities
Violence in our communities will not be tolerated. On Friday, I joined federal, state, and local law enforcement partners in the takedown of an organized criminal group in Fresno, resulting in 32 arrests, as well as the seizure of 57 illegal weapons, and illicit drugs. Ensuring the well-being of the public remains our utmost concern, and we will not back down until justice is served.

Securing Justice for Defrauded Families
This week, we announced the sentencing of a San Diego-based travel agent for embezzling travel funds from more than 150 parents who paid for students' eighth-grade school trips to the East Coast. I am proud to fight for the rights of consumers and thank the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office for their partnership in investigating and prosecuting this case.

Protecting Consumers
We are also celebrating another important court win this week after, the Supreme Court issued a decision upholding the constitutionality of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The CFPB is the cornerstone of federal consumer financial protections and an important partner in our efforts to protect consumers from fraud and abuse. This decision upholds a decade of enforcement and regulatory work by the CFPB, which has returned a staggering $17.5 billion to Americans since its creation.

Protecting Kids from Social Media Harm
We must act now to protect our children from the harms of social media addiction. As you read this, two landmark pieces of legislation I sponsored — the Protecting Our Kids from Social Media Addiction Act (SB 976), and the California Children’s Data Privacy Act (AB 1949) — are making their way through the California Legislature. I will not stand idly by as social media companies target and seek to addict our vulnerable kids.
