At California DOJ, public safety is job number 1, 2, and 3.
That’s why this week I visited the California-Mexico border to get an update on the fentanyl crisis. As DOJ continues to work with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to interrupt networks of drug traffickers, I am proud of the work our Fentanyl Enforcement Program has done to seize more than 11 million fentanyl pills, more than 3,300 pounds of fentanyl powder, and make more than 280 arrests.
I was also proud to join members of the California Legislature at the Capitol to support a robust package of bills aimed at tackling organized retail crime across our state. These types of crimes are hindering businesses, threatening workers, and hurting communities.
Whether we’re seizing illicit fentanyl, busting deadly drug trafficking operations, or disrupting organized retail crime schemes, it’s our job and our honor to protect you, your families, and our communities.
In solidarity,
Rob

Addressing the Fentanyl Crisis
My visit to the California-Mexico border this week was a reminder of how crucial DOJ's Special Agents and all our law enforcement partners are on the frontlines of the fight against illicit fentanyl — investigating traffickers, disrupting trafficking networks, and continuing to prevent overdose deaths by interdicting illicit fentanyl. DOJ's work against fentanyl trafficking won’t stop until the deaths from illicit fentanyl do.

Tackling Organized Retail Crime
I have a message for those running organized retail crime schemes: If you ransack our stores, attack our people, and harm our communities, we’ll come for you. This week I supported a packet of legislation that would continue our work to:
- Bring law enforcement and retailers together to address this problem head-on.
- Disrupt organized crime rings.
- Hold suspects and ringleaders accountable.
- Enable retailers and online marketplaces to stop the sale of stolen goods.
DOJ and all of our partners are committed to holding accountable bad actors and to ending organized retail crime in California.

Cracking Down on Child Predators
This week, we announced a 14-year prison sentence of a Sacramento County man, who we arrested for possession of child pornography during an undercover operation by DOJ's Human Trafficking and Sexual Predator Apprehension Team. Our office is fighting on behalf of the most vulnerable Californians, in the field and in the courtroom. Let this conviction serve as a warning to those who harm children: You will be held accountable.

Protecting Victims of Crimes Across California and Holding Corporations Guilty of Corporate Crimes Accountable
This week, I sponsored a bill that would allow state courts to levy increased monetary penalties on corporations convicted of criminal offenses. Such penalties would in turn provide much-needed funding for crime victim service programs in California. Assembly Bill 2432 aims to bring greater peace of mind to victims of crimes and those who support victims of crime, while holding accountable corporate bad actors.

A Big Win for the LGBTQ+ Community
No one should ever be marginalized for seeking the care they need. This week, we secured a major court win for transgender children and their families in our defense of California’s Transgender Sanctuary State Law, Senate Bill 107. We’re proud to defend this important law to ensure transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals obtain the care that empowers them to lead healthier, happier lives.
