Healthcare is a human right — one that is unfortunately under a seemingly endless onslaught of attacks across the nation. While challenges persist, California DOJ remains immovably committed to safeguarding the ability of all people to access the care they need and deserve.
This week, the U.S. Supreme Court heard a case regarding access to mifepristone, a proven, safe, and effective drug for medication abortion. I am part of a coalition of 24 attorneys general who urged the Court to safeguard complete access to this medication and to reject the request to resurrect outdated dispensing requirements, because the restrictions are scientifically unnecessary, and would threaten the health and safety of millions of individuals.
I also co-led a coalition of 24 attorneys general in opposition of Idaho’s near-total abortion ban. This ban strips away an individual’s right to make their own healthcare decisions, including in circumstances where an emergency medical condition requires abortion care to preserve the health of the pregnant patient. This ban endangers pregnant people in Idaho, threatens the healthcare systems in other states, and violates federal law.
My colleagues and I at DOJ will continue to stand firm in our commitment to defend reproductive freedom and access to safe, legal abortion care for all who seek it.
Your partner in the fight,
Rob

Safeguarding Healthcare for All
In recent years, we have seen a renewed attack on the LGBTQ+ community. Discrimination in any form is unacceptable — and we will continue to defend the LGBTQ+ community from attacks on their freedoms, access, and representation. That’s why this week, I filed a brief in support of doing away with a hateful Trump-era rule that would allow healthcare discrimination against vulnerable communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals. Today, on International Transgender Day of Visibility, we reaffirm our commitment to the fight for equality, dignity, and respect for all.

A Big Win for Housing Access
Up and down our state, Californians are struggling to afford housing. This week, my office secured a big win in court by successfully defending Senate Bill 10, which helps address the housing crisis by allowing for the construction of denser housing.

Protecting California's Water
This week, I called for stronger federal standards for wastewater from meat and poultry products facilities. By prioritizing environmental justice and taking action to protect the health and well-being of all residents, we can create a more equitable and sustainable future for generations to come.

Upholding Tenants' Rights
For many renters, affording a security deposit entails a great deal of sacrifice. This week, I announced a settlement with a corporate landlord that illegally withheld security deposits from tenants in Southern California. California tenants have rights, and my office is committed to protecting them.
