Cracking Down on Organized Retail Crime
Organized retail crime harms businesses, retailers, and consumers – and puts the public at risk. This week, thanks to the efforts of my office and our law enforcement partners, I announced charges against three people allegedly involved in a string of burglaries that resulted in more than $650,000 in losses to stores in the Bay Area.

Fighting to Keep Flights Affordable
This week, we secured a big win for consumers. A federal district court ruled in a lawsuit filed by California and its state and federal partners, permanently blocking JetBlue Airways’ proposed $3.8 billion acquisition of Spirit Airlines. The proposed merger was a bad deal for consumers, threatening to increase prices and reduce service for families already burdened by inflation. I am proud of our work in this case and will continue using every tool available to protect your right to a fair and competitive economy.

Safeguarding Californians' Health
This week, I urged the Biden administration to ban the sale of menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars. The science is clear: Menthol cigarettes have far-reaching negative impacts on public health, resulting in more smoking and more death and disease from tobacco use. The time to act is now. I will not falter in the fight to protect California's communities from the harms of tobacco use.

Protecting Consumers from Annoying Robocalls
In addition to being a daily annoyance, robocalls are often used by scammers to cause real financial damage. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology presents opportunities for new levels of deception by bad actors. This week, I joined a multistate letter to the Federal Communications Commission advocating for protections for consumers against this new threat.

Enforcing California's Housing Laws
California’s housing laws are an essential tool in our fight to equitably address our state's housing shortage. This week, my office, alongside Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Housing and Community Development, secured a settlement with the City of Fullerton requiring the city to reach compliance with state housing laws and provide 13,209 housing units, of which 5,187 would be low- or very low-income. By working together, we can ensure that every city provides more housing access for Californians.

On Monday, I attended the 39th Annual Kingdom Day Parade celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His life, legacy, and vision are a call to action — a reminder that we can’t stop fighting for justice.
