No institution, free market, or democracy can stand on a bed of lies.
No consumer, patient, or citizen can navigate our complex world when they’re misled by webs of deception.
No lawmaker can craft and no government can enforce laws when fictions are masqueraded as fact for the sake of turning a profit.
Whether it’s Big Oil’s decades-long campaign of deception around climate change or a crisis pregnancy center chain’s lies about a risky and unproven treatment, California DOJ won’t allow harmful and unlawful deceit to go unchecked. We stand for truth, above all else.

Stopping Deceptive Crisis Pregnancy Centers
Those who are struggling with the complex decision to get an abortion deserve support and trustworthy guidance — not lies and misinformation. This week, I filed a lawsuit against five crisis pregnancy centers who took advantage of pregnant patients at a deeply vulnerable time in their lives, using false and misleading claims to lure them in and mislead them about a potentially risky procedure. With our lawsuit we are seeking to put a stop to their predatory and unlawful behavior.

Holding Big Oil Accountable
Oil and gas companies have privately known the truth for decades — that the burning of fossil fuels leads to climate change — but have fed us lies and mistruths to further their record-breaking profits at the expense of our environment. Enough is enough.

Securing Justice for Military Families
This week we announced sentencing of Don Azul, who posed as a state contractor and defrauded more than 40 military families throughout California. Azul conned these families into paying at least $500 each for counterfeit CalVet College Fee Waivers, a free California benefit that waives tuition at certain colleges for eligible students, including children of military veterans. As California’s chief law enforcement officer, I will continue doing everything in my power to ensure that those who put their lives on the line for our country, or their families, are not preyed upon.

Seizing Illegal Narcotics
This week, we announced the arrest of a drug trafficker who was apprehended in Santa Ana after crossing in a vehicle across the U.S.-Mexico border and who is a suspected associate of the Sinaloa drug cartel. Agents seized 89 bundles of methamphetamines, totaling 135 pounds, located in a hidden compartment on the vehicle. Through the work of the California Department of Justice and our law enforcement partners, we stopped a trafficker from delivering dangerous illicit drugs that would have ended up in our communities.

Defending California's Gun Laws
In the past half-century, large-capacity magazines have been used in about three-quarters of gun massacres with 10 or more deaths and in 100% of gun massacres with 20 or more deaths. We will continue to fight for our authority to keep Californians safe from weapon enhancements designed to cause mass casualties. We will not stop in our efforts to protect the safety of communities and Californians’ rights to go about their business without fear of becoming victims of gun violence, while at the same time respecting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners.

Honoring a Fallen Officer
My heart aches for the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer, who was killed in the line of duty on September 16. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Deputy Clinkunbroomer embodied the selfless spirit that runs in his family. His heroism and his sacrifice will forever be remembered and honored by the people of California.

Resource Corner
Warning: Crisis pregnancy centers (CPC) do not provide comprehensive reproductive healthcare. If you are looking to understand your abortion options, be aware of the limits to the information and care a CPC can provide. Do your research before going to these centers to learn about your abortion options. I urge those seeking reproductive care to visit oag.ca.gov/reprorights, which contains trustworthy resources to help patients get the care they need.
